CD Review - Jacks Mannequin - CD/LP Jacks Mannequin - CD/LP

Overall: 9.8
Music: 9.7
Lyrics: 9.9
Production: 9.3

I wish I could press the “pause” button on life. This would give me the time needed to examine humanity and really start to understand what it is all about. Andrew McMahon has figured out a way to achieve this, and it all comes out in the debut album “Everything In Transit”.

Most of us are familiar with the sweet sound of Something Corporate, and to be honest I was hoping that Everything In Transit would sound exactly the same. There is no denying the presence of Something Corporate. You will hear that familiar melodic piano playing, as clever lyrics cut through the sound in a beautiful arrangement. Also the power is clearly present. You will experience the same feeling you had when you listened to songs like “Fall” and “Only Ashes”. Only after you listen to the album several times you will start to notice what sets Jack’s Mannequin apart from Something Corporate. What is that exactly you may ask? Well, I’ll tell you. Have you ever heard a song that seems to be held back? Or you found yourself wishing it would have done this or that? I know I have. While listening to this CD I started to notice that Andrew has taken out all the stops. He has let himself go in a sense, and the amazing thing is, is that he has managed to do it in a way that the music is un-inhibited yet organized.

Like every thing in this world, each song has a strength and a weakness. What sets this CD apart is the fact that not once while listening was I unimpressed by both music and lyrics at the same time. Which gives a very solid feeling. The album also does a good job of holding my attention which can be a very difficult thing to do in this A.D.H.D day and age. You can sit down and listen to every song, even without your Ritalin, which is nice.

The album as a whole is very complete. Make sure to pick this one up, then go home and listen to it with headphones, and you won’t regret it. Andrew has done an amazing job of pushing out realization through a pen and on to paper, and then completes the equation with sound quenching music.
I would like to thank Andrew for every amazing song he has been involved with. I wish for him to make a quick, full recovery. Life is so unexpected and seems to always try and pull us down, but I know that Andrew will only take the good things from his experiences and leave the rest behind. Not forgetting the bad times, but growing because of them.
