Re: Death Cab For Cutie - Plans
January 26, 2006, 09:38 PM | | I am somewhat put off by this review of Plans. It does the album no justice. It reminded me of the time my sweetheart rolled over in bed and asked me how it was...my reply was "well, it was kind of like a bad Zinfandel. Started strong, but left a nasty aftertaste." That wasn't nice!!!!! Je regret.
Plans is a beautifully constructed piece of music. Some have said it is their finest work, but I actually liked Transatlanticism better. This was an outstanding first major label release though. It seems that DCFC has learned a thing or two about production and likes a little of what BG picked up in the Postal Service. It was more mature.
The lyrics were stronger that they were in Transatlanticism. There seemed to be a couple of recurring themes. Love and death, bad relationships, self loathing, regret and resignation. This makes me wonder exactly how many of them turned 30 in the last year.
However listening to the album you are left with the distinct impression that yes, those wrinkles and bags on your face are yours, those mistakes were yours, but you are all the more beautiful for having them.
