Levon Sultanian (Onesidezero) - The Songs That Changed My Life
September 26, 2007, 05:37 PM | | Music and playing music has always been in the family. I started playing piano at the age of 7. All the kids in the family had to play the piano. Our Grandpa Charles was the maestro. He knew the piano back and fourth, upside down, in his sleep and on the back of his hands. We all got pretty good due to the strict lessons with the Maestro.
One day my father put on his collection of beta video tapes in the living room of our apartment in Hollywood. That was it! After I saw Ritchie Blackmore(Deep Purple), Jimmy Page(Led Zeppelin), Tony Iommi(Black Sabbath, Eric Clapton(Cream), Jimi Hendrex, all do what they were
doing to this other instrument called the guitar, that was it for me! I begged my dad for a guitar. He got me a $50 nylon string guitar from the recycler. I started playing guitar at the age of 9.
My life was changed forever when I saw Hendrix burning & smashing his guitar after he just played the hell out of it. Then Eddie Van Halen with the magic he plays, fuget about it! SRV re-inventing the blues, The Beatles setting standards, breaking rules and making new ones. Then after all these old timer greats had made it seem like you can't do anything new, here came Dimebag Darrell... WOW! Changing my life all over again.
That's the magic of music and playing and mastering an intrument... the possibities are endless and the impact it can have on ones life. All the songs I mention below are just some of the songs that have impacted my life and changed me to who I am now. The journey continues...
