The Born Again Rebels started around midyear of ’03 The Rebels, as they are often refered, began their rock and roll journey in Mattydale New York running an Open Mic night that was often visited by some of the areas greatest musicians including the Century Media artist Brand New Sin. The young band, all aged from 20 to 21 years gained a reputation for themselves by traveling the Central New York area bar scene and playing open mic nights every chance they had. The bands first big break was a show for a jock on local rock radio station, 105.1 the Dog, it was his Birthday party. From there the band exploded on to the scene playing their covers by Lynyrd Skynryd, Eric Clapton, Guns n’ Roses, the Doors, BLS,Pantera ,and Metallica to name a few. The band has since gone on to writing originals and recording their first full length album, containing 10 tracks of all original material. The bands originals contain an amazing amount of influence from all of rock and roll. Gary Haydu, the man behind the mic, writes the start to all of the rebels’ songs from the ideas in his head and then throws them on the table for the rest of the band to add their 10 cents. Gary obtains a lot of his influence from the time when the southern man ruled over rock and roll and from when people double his age were jamming out in garage bands. Tommy Matkowski left the band in late 07 . Eric Maliszewski holds it down from the low end on bass aggressively pulling and pushing the band through each song and then knowing when to back off and let the 6 strings take over. Influenced by bassists old and new, Eric definitely has a metal/hard rock edge the band can use to help bring a balance between old and new, but none of the bass parts would be of any driving force without the help of the young Alan Haydu on drums. The youngest member in the band, Alan beats his drums at every show like there is no tomorrow. Alan has come to be an amazing all around drummer by looking for influence from all over the rock community, from Skynyrd to Metallica and from the Grateful Dead to today’s punk rock. The Born Again Rebels as a band have one truly important talent; they can play to an audience of any age at anytime with an arsenal of songs that can easily grab the attention of potential listeners and do so with an energy and exuberance matched by few bands in the same category as the Rebels.
