The fourth UK release taken from their debut album, "This is Alphabeat", "What is happening" is a not bad effort from Danish popstrels Alphabeat. Having initially despised Alphabeat from the moment I laid eyes on them (literally, laid eyes on, in the form of their annoying blue peter-esque videos) I have gradually changed my mind and came round to some kind of luke warm feelings for them. While I can't ever imagine myself rushing out to get my hands on their latest release or album, I've decided they don't deserve my full on hate, which is a start.
"What is happening" is a typical Alphabeat song, annoyingly catchy in the way only really cheesy bands can be (think Zutons and Fratellis). It took 15 years and about $20 million to make Chinese Democracy. Considering there are 14 songs on the album, that's over a year and around $1.4 million per track. I heard the singles, so I already know it's not packed full of million dollar songs. But, before I really rip into this album, there is something we need to get out of the way. The name. No, not Chinese Democracy. Guns N Roses. I don't have a problem with the fact that Axl is the only original member in the band. What I do have a problem with is that Axl's ego is so big I'm sure he'd sue the pants off anyone who tried to take credit for any small portion of this album. For that reason, it is not Guns N Roses, it is Axl Rose. Now onto the content of the record (and further evidence that this is actually a solo album).

And so for phase three of The Killers David Bowie homage and this time we get the Ashes to Ashes 80's stage of Bowie's career re-enacted by four men from Las Vegas. Does anyone hear the words 'Cabaret', no just me then? Well it's not that bad truthfully and I'm all for Bowie homage's the man is a legend after all so it's to be expected and on 'Day And Age' we get it in spades.
The Killers have always been a band that seemed to never quite know what they wanted to be or how they wanted to sound from 'Hot Fuss' anthemic nod to late 70's New York or the follow up 'Sam's Town' americana tinge. Now we get a sort of 80's glam and a sound that seems more closer to home for The Killers in terms of it's show and it's pomp after all they are from Vegas and isn't that what Vegas is all about.

But if you are looking to supplement the pop-rock section of your CD collection, The Way We Talk would be a solid addition. The new EP, and Fearless Records debut, from Arizona's much hyped The Maine has already been a huge seller at outlets like Smart Punk and and Interpunk. Make no mistake, for a band that only formed in January 2007, this band have caused quite the stir in the American rock community.

'Singularity' is the debut release from Virginia’s metal heavyweights Adversary. This album is released through the well know metal/hardcore label, Trustkill, who have recently been under fire for their dispute with Orange County’s Bleeding Through over apparent lack of funding. So if you are wondering how does Adversary get the money for a release and seasoned pros Bleeding Through does not? Well it’s because Adversary recorded 'Singularity' before signing to Trustkill. Whether Trustkill contributed at all, who knows, but all I know is that they probably got a great deal for this hungry young quintet.
