Connecting with the Exies in SoCal, we talked to them about how they’re promoting their latest single, “These are the Days,” and forced them to choose a favorite band to perform with.
Before they headed out on tour, they also gave us some insight about how social networking helps them relate with fans. Unlike ten years ago when the only real way to get in touch with your favorite band was by joining their snail mail fan club (if they had one) and subscribing to their monthly paper newsletters, fans today are able to stay updated with just one click.
On how their sound has evolved since their hit, “My Goddess”:
The Exies have been playing music together for 10 years and their sound has definitely matured and grown more focused over that time. Scott used to share the main songwriting duties with their former guitarist on previous albums, but while they all contributed on this CD, you can tell it’s grown more into Scott’s vision.
On the role of social networking for artists like themselves:
“Huge!” The Exies have found social networking as a great way to communicate with fans and get the word out about their band.
On whether or not they actually check their own MySpace profile:
Yes, they totally run the profile themselves. While they admit it’s hard to find the time, the guys feel it’s something important to do for the fans. They said, “We wouldn’t be doing [music] wouldn’t our fans!”
On which single band they would choose to perform with:
While they didn’t want to pick just one, The Exies went with the Foo Fighters since they’re a great band. As they recorded their current CD, Dave Grohl (front man for the Foo Fighters) hung out during some of their sessions and he apparently tells the “best stories” too.
On what they have coming up next as they’re promoting “These are the Days” and their new CD (“A Modern Way of Living with the Truth”:
They definitely plan on touring and playing as many places as they can. They travelled for 10 months last year and plan to do even more this year and next!
