To celebrate the Halloween release of their new five song EP, Revenge, aggressive punk/rock/metal band MONGREL (Screaming Ferret Wreckords) is offering a free download of 'Scum' the lead off track from the new release at REVENGE | Mongrel with the entire EP along with the artwork available for a limited time as a "name your price" digital download. All five songs from the EP are also available on the REVENGE | Mongrel site for streaming play.

"'Scum' is based on a true story, unfortunately, and is about not feeling that justice has been done, so the victim turns vigilante...essentially the ultimate revenge" stated Mongrel guitarist Adam Savage. "It just seemed like the perfect song to start off the new EP with."

Revenge is the follow up to Mongrel's Screaming Ferret Wreckords full length debut Fear, Lies, & Propaganda which was released in April 2008. Savage states, "The EP is a great way to introduce the steps forward we've taken with the new recordings that we've been working on this year, and gives a taste of what's to come on the new full length album "This Means War" which will be out in early 2010."

Savage also makes clear that all of the songs on Revenge are exclusive to this EP and will not be on the upcoming full length cd, stating, "We wanted to keep the EP as something special for the fans and not make them re-buy the same songs when the new album comes out."

The Revenge EP features the songs: 'Scum', 'Catharsis', 'Beyond Repair', 'Butterknife Suicide', and 'Point A Finger' (featuring guest vocals by Tylor Monroe of SCARECROW HILL). Revenge can also be obtained digitally on iTunes, Amazon, and most major digital music providers. CD copies will be available at all shows starting on Halloween, or via Metro City Records

Well after a lot of thought, pressure and logistical issues we have found a place to do t-shirts for us that is cheap enough for people to buy, has no overheads for the site and allows us to make a little profit at the same time from the sale of these to help keep the site alive. I have put together four designs to start with that I think should appeal to most peoples tastes. All you have to do is pick a design you like below, click the image and it will take you to the Dizzyjam page where you can purchase the t-shirt in about 20 different colour combinations. The sizes available are S, M and L so should be good for the majority of people.

Looking forward to catching you guys repping these shirts. And I lay a challenge out there for the person to get a photo or video of them repping on of these bad boys in the wildest places. The wilder the better so let's get some t-shirts and have some fun!

Well for the past year and a half we have been busy taking on interns to write reviews and do interviews with bands and all that fun stuff. We have so many good people on board now it was time to find camera talent. Photographers are a VERY important part of the current music scene and whenever I am at a gig there is always at least one photographer there (apart from myself).

Why not put that photography skill of yours to the test and come photograph for Altsounds.com. We can organize you photo passes for tours of bands we work with. All that is required in turn is to upload the photos to Altsounds.com for our visitors to see. Whereas a review is a textual based overview of the show experienced, we like the idea of our Photographers doing the same thing but with visuals. You can also feel free to upload any other photos you want too for gigs that you didn't do for us just so others that will be interested can check out your skills.

Do what you love and get to photograph the bands of your dreams at the same time. We ask all photographers to upload the photos within one day of the gig to make sure that the Altsounds gallery becomes the influx of visuals I hope it will end up being.

If you have a camera and an eye for photography, then why not apply and do something really fun and worthwhile from your passion?

Dear UNSIGNED Altsounds artists - would you like a review?

Are you an unsigned Altsounds artist?

Is your music *"alternative to the mainstream"*?

Are you sure?

Yeah...?

OK... then read on.

Are you an unsigned Altsounds artist?

Is your music "alternative to the mainstream"?

Are you sure?

Yeah...?

OK... then read on.

If you're reading this then you probably already know that Altsounds is dedicated to bringing its readers the best new music available. However, did you also know that we care about all you unsigned musicians out there (well, at least the good ones...) struggling to get some recognition, searching high and low (and in between) to find a receptive audience?

With this in mind we've decided to create a twice weekly feature headed by me, new Altsounds writer Joseph Scott (hello!) called 'Unknown Pleasures', dedicated to reviewing unsigned alternative Altsounds artists. You, the unsigned musician, can then quote the reviews on your MySpace, in your press materials, etc., and eventually when you're signed give us a "If it wasn't for Altsounds I wouldn't be here right now" shout out in your CD's liner notes.

By 'alternative' I - Joseph Scott, your potential reviewer - mean unfamiliar, challenging, different, non-conformist, non-generic and everything that mainstream music is not.

Here's a list of 'alternative' musicians to guide you:

Established classics
John Coltrane, Steve Reich, My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, Sonic Youth, Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, Wolfgang Voigt (i.e. Gas, Studio 1, etc.), Beatles, Don Cherry, Stooges, Ramones, Suicide, Serge Gainsbourg, Melt Banana, Public Enemy, (early 2000s) Cat Power, VU, 'Metal Machine Music', etc.

Newbies
Joanna Newsom, The Neptunes, Clipse, Panda Bear, Panda Riot (I like pandas...), Sufjan Stevens, The Cool Kids, Tickley Feather, Ariel Pink, Flying Lotus, MF Doom, Madlib, The Field, Girl Talk and so on.

While I will TRY to not review things I dislike, sending me music that's irrelevant wastes my time and yours.

So, with this in mind, you can send links to your Altsounds Artist pages and whatever details you wish to provide to me here.

(If you don't have an Altsounds Artist page and want a review, why not create one here? It only takes a few minutes... :) )

Our review team are not scared to knock a band off their pedestal whilst at the same time they are equally not afraid of elevating a band to super stardom. This is where you come in. We are seeking taste-makers in all the alternative genres. By alternative we mean "alternative to the mainstream". Taste-makers with a love for all genres are urged to apply.

We are looking for the guy [or girl] that starts a fanzine for his/[her] favourite band or someone that goes to gigs to take photos because they love that style of music. We are looking for people that love vinyl and equally people that love what an MP3 brings to the table. We are looking for people that will always listen to an album they have never even heard in the hope it will be the next amazing album. People that know music. Not just what happened this year but what happened over the last 50 years. We are looking for people that listen to Johnny Cash and who listen to Chombichrist plus anything [and everything] in-between, above and beyond.

The role is intern based [no pay sorry.] but it allows you passionate music individuals a place to let others know about the bands that you love at the same time spitting on the bands that bother you. Don't keep the best bands to yourself, tell others just to help the band you love. On the flip-side if there is a band that bugs the fuck out of you don't be afraid to make sure others are aware too! No experience necessary but good verbal and writing skills and an ounce of creativity are required. You will be expected to be ready to give opinion on music that you don't usually listen to in a fair and honest light regardless of specific genre or even sub-genre.

We are interested in the people that are always pushing new music on their friends. The ones that at the same time as standing up and communicating their hatred for something musical could quite as comfortably influence others with their positive opinions on bands they love and be able to clearly give the reasons why.

1. If you own over 100 vinyl records we want you.
2. If you spend more than 100 Pounds a month on music we want you
3. If you produce music we want you.
4. If you can review musical equipmetn we want you.
5. If you can identify which band in 10 are the best we want you.
6. If you can easily distinguish between musical quality and musical crap we want you.
7. If you enjoyed the way this was written we want you.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Just so you guys are aware. I find that embedding a video into a review really helps right there and then for the reader to find out what that persons sounds and looks like. Embedding video on Altsounds is as easy and getting a glass of water.

We currently support about 100 of the most popular video channels and if it doesn't work well hey at least the link is still there!!

Basically open up a window with your favourite video provider - Myspace, Youtube etc and search for the video you want. When you have found it take the URL of the page from your address bar and just paste it into the thread wherever you want the video to appear. Just make sure that it shows in your editor as a link. If not highlight the unlinked URL, click in your toolbar and paste the url into the popup again. Usually the editor will make it a link itself but that previous info was just incase it does not.

Submit your post and voila! Instant embedding with no worries or hassle for you. Now how easy was that?? VERY!

EDIT: I also just coded one for the Myspace Music player. Enter the url i.e. OpenDNS and the player will auto embed.

E.G. MySpace.com - Bleed Electric BRAND NEW PROFILE - Cardiff, UK - Electronica / Alternative / Breakbeat - www.myspace.com/bleedelectricuk

Also great for reviews.

In an effort to promote further activity by all our journalists we have just introduced a new scheme to Altsounds called Altsounds Dollars. How does that affect you, you ask? Well, going forward CD Reviews, Live Reviews and Interviews cost Altsounds dollars for that privilege to in some small way offset the costs associated with making all this stuff happen for you guys. Think of it as a back scratching tool where we work our asses off to get you to listen to and see what you want to in return for you helping to grow Altsounds.

NOTE: Altsounds Dollars is a completely fictional currency and does not equate to anything of any monetary value whatsoever. Altsounds Dollars are credits that can be used for Review CDs, gigs and interviews.

How Do I Earn Altsounds $$
Altsounds Dollars are earned in hundreds of different ways and the general rule is that if your using Altsounds then you are earning Altsounds Dollars.
What I can buy with my Altsounds $$
OK now you've scratched my back, it's time for me to scratch yours and it's the reason your all here. Free CDs, gigs and interviews with bands - in return for more Altsounds $$ Please find below the cost of these items on Altsounds.com so you know what your spending before you spend it.

Physical CDS (delivered to you via Royal Mail)

CD Album of choice for Review - $50

CD EP of choice for Review - $40

CD Single of choice for Review - $25

Online Music (delivered to you via email)

CD, EP or Single of choice for Review - $20

Gigs, Photopasses and Face to Face Interviews (whether successful or not)

Guestlist + 1 for tours listed in the Altsounds News section - $100

Guestlist +1 +Photopass for tours listed in the Altsounds News Section - $125

Guestlist +1 for tours not listed on Altsounds (cold call) - $150

Guestlist +1 +Photopass for tours not listed on Altsounds (cold call) - $200

Face to Face Interview with a band - $300

Phone Interview with a band - $250

First Come First Served?
As the regulars are aware CDs are first come first served......until now! To further promote people to use Altsounds we are now allowing people to name their price for the really popular CDs or gigs e.g. the Kings of Leon UK tour 08. The way this should work is you post that you want it and unless it has been posted "This will be going out in the mail today" it can be bartered. Just reply with that CD name and how much you are paying for it and as long as it's higher than the previous bid that CD moves over to you. If you want to get your hands on your CD of choice you should rack up those Altsounds Dollars so you can outbeat your opponents!!

I really want to get a CD or go to a particular gig but I'm Skint and have no Altsounds Dollars, what can I do?
At this point you go to your Press Control Panel and request a loan from the bank to tide you over which will be subject to interest and fees.

You may also talk to a friend on Altsounds to see if they will personally loan you the money (Donate) which is always a possibility.

Weekly Altsounds Lottery - $1,000,000 prize
There is a weekly lottery on Altsounds.com too that allows you to pay $1 for a ticket which will generate you a random number from 1 to 100,000. You can either use the random generated number or you can pick your own. You can buy up to 10 lottery tickets per week. Current Altsounds Millionaires:

mediawhore

Earn Interest from Saving
At the top right of the screen when logged in (next to the red logout icon) is a little $ icon. Click this to go to the bank where you can transfer money from your current account to your savings to make some interest and earn some more money.

And that's about it. If you have any questions whatsoever please post in here. At this moment in time this is completely new and is a trial to see if it will even work so we would really appreciate you all trying to get into this as much as possible. If things start going well we will introduce more ways for you to spend your Altsounds Dollars that you will all love!

Hey All,

We have just introduced a new feature which is Instant E-mail Notification for sections and threads you are subscribed to. The easiest way to subscribe to a section on Altsounds.com is to click on the little envelope in the read header section of that section and then click on Instant E-mail notification on the page that follows.

This allows you to stay up to date very easily on Altsounds and even has the added bonus of allowing people in work with no internet access other than e-mail to still partake in Altsounds.com while at work via e-mail as we allow you to reply to (comment) items via e-mail!!!

People often get wiped out at how quickly I respond to something on Altsounds. Well now the instant e-mail notification is available to all you guys too can respond this quickly. I also have e-mail on my Blackberry so literally I can be administering and replying to threads on Altsounds.com any time of day or night wherever the hell I am (as long as I have a mobile signal)!

The opportunities for this quickly become endless and would allow for savvy reviewers to post info about shows and festivals as they are watching the gig. Now you can't really get more up to date than live can you??

I would advise the serious reviewers/interviewers signup for this so that they know about all the latest opportunities, reviews and news instantaneously. It means you won't miss out on a band you wanted as most CDs, and tours are on a first come first served basis.

Let me know your experiences with this feature in this thread.
Thanks
Chris
