The M's - Interview with Josh Chicoine

The M's - Interview with Josh Chicoine

"Everything informs the decision"

Who or what inspires your music....?
Life, music, art, books, magazines, movies, tv, seas, space, animals, plants, people, cars, motorcycles, the cubs, spicy food, girls, babies, space, and other things too

What's the story behind your band name?
Rob had it and it was written down somewhere and we're bad at decisions, so we went with it.

Name some bands you're physically intimidated by.
Like in a fight? Gwar .

The best album you bought in the last 6 months?
Nilsson’s 'The Point'

Why should people buy your new album?
Because they like the music and have the money to spend on it.

What are your thoughts on album leaks and file sharing?
For small bands, it's necessary. It's looking that way for big bands too.

Do you have a pre-show hydration routine you follow?
Beer and lots of it.

What can you tell me about your instruments? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever's available? What made you choose the instruments you have now? Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color preference?
Everything informs the decision. There's no real brand loyalty. Washburn gave us some guitars and so we use those. Being poor helps you make decisions too.

What are your favourite and least favourite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
Schubas Tavern in Chicago is probably our favorite, especially since they put us in the green room. There's lots of nice places though. AND lots of crap holes. We play them all. M's are playing the hideout Nov 21st. Besides that, we're working on a new record.

Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a standard setlist?

We really try and play tunes from all of our records with the goal of not getting bored. If we do get bored with a song, we stop playing it. We have played covers in the past and probably will again. It's really whenever the mood strikes us, but we don't really think about playing covers for every live show. When we're on tour, we generally stick to a couple set lists to keep it consistent and to work on other aspects of the show.

Thanks!
