Altsounds: What do you feel you need to do in order to be purged?
A Plea For Purging: In a spiritual sense? Ask for redemption of your sins, accept that Christ is the Son of God that paid for that redemption, and live a life adhering to the teachings of Christ and the commandments.
Altsounds: Do you guys face much ridicule in the metal world for being 'Christian Metal'?
A Plea For Purging: Not so much. Christian metal is as common or more common than secular metal. It's one of the fastest growing genres in music right now. So it's been heard by anyone in this scene. They are used to it whether that's their thing or not. Maybe a God Free kid will mumble something from the crowd now and then, but being as I am scared of no human other than my mom, I always invite any hecklers on stage for a one on one, no one has taken me up on the offer yet.
Altsounds: How about from more conservative Christian folk? Do you they approve of your method for spreading the word of God?
A Plea For Purging: Like I said Christian metal is so common now, in bars and churches alike. So its chilled out from when I 1st got into this scene. But yes, I'd say we do experience more grief from conservative Christians than we do from God Free scene kids. Sad huh?
The adults of the past generation had Michael W. Smith or even Bill Gaither for the generation prior to that, because they couldn't connect to the songs and hymns of the early church days.
It's the same with the uprising of new Christian music. How can you expect for the kids of today to be into The Gaither Family Vocal Band? Give me a break.
Altsounds: Who are your musical idols?
A Plea For Purging: That's hard. I don't really think I have any idols.
I'd say for our scene, I've def been influenced by Strongarm, Overcome, Living Sacrifice, Focal Point...the list goes on.
Funny or not, I will have to say, Kurt Cobain was the biggest influence I had for wanting to play music.
Altsounds: You guys play a LOT of shows, are you not worried about burnout?
A Plea For Purging: Nah, we've already played well beyond enough to be burned out. Now we're just zombie touring.
Altsounds: Are you planning to tour the UK much?
A Plea For Purging: Yes! A ton! We just haven't had the chance to go over yet. But be on the look out for European dates in 09.
Altsounds: When did you start fire-breathing?
A Plea For Purging: Its been appearing in our set from time to time since the birth of the band. I think the band first breathed fire at its second show ever, before I was in the band.
Altsounds: Are you any closer to capturing any 'Awkward Girls' on video?
A Plea For Purging: We haven't been touring for the last couple months. But rest assured there will be more awkward rocking captured on film by A Plea For Purging.
Altsounds: What do the lyrics, "Left to die, were those who gathered, children first and women last" in Resurrection Of The Beast mean?
A Plea For Purging: Its just a reference of imagery of spiritual warfare. How the weak will die.
Altsounds: It's not the only song to feature lyrics about a great battle or war. Do you believe a great war, not of man's design, is coming?
A Plea For Purging: We speak a lot of spiritual warfare with references to Revelations as well as the Crusades.
But yes, I do believe there will be a great spiritual war, I believe it has been going on for some time and will erupt one day. Prophets since the new testament have thought they were living in the end days. Who knows when it will happen. But I do believe we are in the end times now.
Altsounds: Use this space to promote anything you want.
A Plea For Purging: Thank you for your interest in our band and for giving me a chance to speak my mind on your topics. Please keep a watch out for us on tour all of 09 and grab our new record "Depravity" in stores March 3rd.
God Bless.
