Acoustic versions of "Strike Sparks Anywhere" and "Bomb Threat"
THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM is a band dedicated in name and spirit to action, movement and excitement. The band performed last summer alongside Primal Scream, Iggy Pop and The Charlatans and evolved into a new outfit, complete with fresh impetus and direction.
The band name is intended to reflect the spirit in which the band was created. Punk, Madness in any direction, at any hour; You could literally "strike sparks anywhere". 'Strike Sparks Anywhere' is the debut EP release from THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM. Included on the EP is a remix of 'Family Man' by Dan Le Sac, who hit the UK Top spot last year with 'Thou Shalt Always Kill'.
Since their birth in early 2008, THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM have secured a great level of support - from their home grown fan base to internationally recognized artists, from UK and US radio DJs to places as far away as Hollywood and Sydney. The Guardian refer to THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM as "electro-rock and roll at its flammable best!" There are few acts in today's 'indie' scene capable of generating this level of depth and impact on both stage and record.

"The track 'Strike Sparks Anywhere' is a statement of intent rather than an attempt to staple ourselves to any one particular political motif..." says lead singer Matt Rimmer. "It's not part of any agenda - we, as a band, just happen to get off on and riled about a lot of the same things. In generations past, people wanted to leave a positive mark on history, but that seems less important now. Everything is transitory. This is about people who give a shit about something, whether it's fashionable or not... and so that's why it sounds like it does."
This certainly comes across in the live show, touring across the UK in May 2008 in an Academy tour with Alabama 3. THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM have managed to garner an excellent stage reputation, both at home and abroad. Leading to 2009, THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM will be recording the follow up to the 'Strike Sparks Anywhere' EP and heading out across the UK and Europe.
As 2008 was drawing to a close, the Altsounds HQ buzzer went off and I was welcomed by the lads from THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM, guitars in hand, exuding confidence and ready to slay their Altsounds.com Acoustic Session. They spent an hour with me chatting about all sorts of things and in between we recorded a live Acoustic Session. THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM played me their previous single "Strike Sparks Anywhere" and "Bomb Threat" both of which transcribed deliciously acoustically. I must say that being the sole audience member in the room while I filmed the video and recorded the audio was a great experience and, in this instance, their mellow vibe made me have to sit down to do it all so that I could really chill out and enjoy the vibe.
All songs were recorded live and were Produced, Mixed and Mastered by Chris Maguire (www.helloiamchris.com). If this Altsounds Session is anything to go by, then the future looks bright for THIS IS RADIO FREEDOM.
This audio is part of what will eventually become an Altsounds.com Sessions Video feature. Once this is complete, the video will be posted here. Keep your eyes and ears peeled.
