Ghost On Pegasus Bridge provide a new genre to the hardcore music scene. 'Epic-core' is the new thing, and GOPB have hit the coffin nail on the head with their shattering breakdowns and layered ambience. The band hope to bring a new level to the heavier music scene and have the hair cuts to match. The new record 'From Graves To Grace' is out on the 2nd of March and promises to be a stonker. Altsounds managed to wangle an interview with Tobias (guitar/vocals) to find out what the band are up to and what they are about.

[altsounds] Hey guys,

[altsounds] I'm sure this is the question you are always asked by any member of the press; What does your band name mean/stand for?

[TOBIAS: GOPB] Haha, yeah that does seem to come up a lot! To be completely honest with you, it has no super, epic, amazing, meaning (to everyone’s dismay!) It just sounded cool and we went with it.
It was actually the second band name we had, we had a brief 3 day stint as "All Hearts Are Targets"... but i'd rather not go into that!

[altsounds] 'Epic-Core' is a very cool name for a Genre, having no knowledge of this, please explain, is it like a really intense centre of an apple?

[TOBIAS: GOPB] Hmm.. an interesting question, what is Epic-Core?... well I guess it’s a combination of various other "Cores" including "Metal" And "Post-Hard", but with a twist of epicness. Haha. It’s surprisingly hard to explain. One time we worked out a metal version of the Jurassic Park theme tune for a set intro, which sounded epic! All in all, without trying to sound too cliché, we try to write music that would send shivers down your spine. That or sound like it’s out of a Lord Of The Rings battle!

[altsounds] How did you all meet? Was it musician love at first play? (If that makes any sense whatsoever?)

[TOBIAS: GOPB] Oh Man, this is a long story. Basically we've had about 2040503002 members (alot, i know!) since we started back in mid 2006. Only now are we in a line up where everyone is 100 percent the right person for the job. As I’m the only original member, I can say it was musical love at first play with each of the other four.

[altsounds] I just read your news update on your Myspace, and you were hacked right? This must have been horrible? (not to rub it in even more)

[TOBIAS: GOPB] Words cannot describe how devastating this has been, we’re not overly sure what happened. I came home from work on Sunday to find Nic (Vocals and my house mate) nearly in tears. It took a while to really sink in, but things do seem to be getting back on track now. It’s not the end of the world, and much worse things happen everyday. It’s all about remembering the important things in life, like... Epic-Core's for life, not just for Myspace. Haha!

[altsounds] Have you had to seriously get adding people again? or have you left it to the fans?

[TOBIAS: GOPB] It’s been a bit of both to be honest; we've been sat up adding people ever since it happened as we lost over 38,000 friends! Saying that, our fans and friends in other bands have been the best. I'd just like to take a second to thank each and every one of you for helping us get back on our feet, you’re awesome. FACT.

[altsounds] 'The Darkest Shore' looks to be a promising start to 2009 for GOPB, how do you feel everything has gone so far for the record?

[TOBIAS: GOPB] Thanks man! Yeah, bar the whole Myspace fiasco. 2009 is looking pretty damn good, we've got so so much in the pipeline and I can’t wait to unleash some of the stuff we have planned. The new record is by far our best work to date, and shows a real progression from our older tracks. It feels like after three years, we've finally found our sound and everything else just seems to be falling into place around us!

[altsounds] There are some great pieces of art & design work up on your Myspace and your CD covers, do any of you draw/design?

[TOBIAS: GOPB] Matt (Drums) is awesome with Photoshop and all that jazz, and he does loads of flyers and stuff for us, but all the amazing artwork on our page is down to Justin from Baysick Design. That guy’s worked magic on the brief we gave him and I would recommend him to anyone looking for some sick artwork!

[altsounds] Who would you most like to support at a gig?

[TOBIAS: GOPB] I think for me, if we ever got to support Iron Maiden, I’d probably pass out and die before we even got to sound check. They've been such an inspiration to so many bands and to play with them to probably be the best thing in the universe ever!

[altsounds] Have you played alongside any of your musical heroes yet?

[TOBIAS: GOPB] We got to play with Sikth at the Southampton Guildhall back in 2007. It's wicked to think back now and know we got to play with them before they split up!

[altsounds] When you say "in a hope to bring a new life to a drowning music scene" what do you mean? As is your genre or music as a whole?

[TOBIAS: GOPB] Right, I'll have to get my game face on to answer this one! I would never ever claim that we are an original band, but I'm just so tired of hearing the same old carbon copies. Obviously all music comes from influence, and I'm by no means a stranger to that, but, there is a difference between taking influence from a band and trying to "be" that band. We’re trying to write really epic heavy music, with almost mature pop melodies. A lot of bands play metal with both singing and screaming, and yeah we have one or two screams on our new record, but 99% of our vocals are melodic. We are aware its nothing ground breaking, but everyone tells us it's fresh. I just wish some of these bands would take more risks, because otherwise we will be swamped with the same old.. over and over again.

[altsounds] Anything you would like to add? Some abuse to the idiots that hacked your Myspace account maybe? We can probably get some big guns together and beat seven bails of crap out of them. That would be fun.

[TOBIAS: GOPB] I think you've hit the nail on the head there Haha! On a serious note, please check out our Myspace! Add us up and help us out if you can. Stop by, have a chat, have a cup of tea, not literally but you know! If we’re coming to a town near you then please come check us out, coz everyone needs a little Epic-Core in there lives!

[TOBIAS: GOPB]

Cheers

Tobias x

[altsounds]

Thanks a lot,

Jack
