Leeds Festival 2009: Welcome to Leeds

Welcome to leeds festival 09! One school boy error has occurred already. I totally didn't check the weather, bad mistake. Wellies are essential at a festival, I brought flat trainers. Interesting.

Everything Is just kicking off on the stages, first bands of the day are pumping out the toons!

Altsounds interview team set to have a chat with you me at six in a short while then have word with fightstar later on in the day!

Leeds Festival 2009: Fightstar

"One of the best British rock bands" we hear from the presenter at main stage. Who you ask? That's right, Fightstar. If you agree or not there is no dispute this band have worked bloody hard.


Fightstar are tight, loud and play the with the crowd. Singles 'English Way' and 'Mercury Summer' sound sweet despite some unwanted feedback. But hey what can you expect? It is a festival.


Look out for an exclusive interview with Fightstar later, although I don't really want to meet the bassist. I have pretty much the exact same hair cut, I don't wanna show him up you know?

Leeds Festival 2009: Spinerette

Now here's a girl with swagger. I'm sipping a cheeky Carlsberg at quarter to two and on stage is Brody Dahl. She has attitude and a lot of style. This new band she licks the mic with go by the name of Spinnerette.

Having no idea of the names of the songs I won't upset the fans by guessing. Ok I will, well one was called "blllaaaaggghheeuuss" the other was " jjgiugjng", at least I think that's what she said. Too much attitude also results in too much noise. It just sounds like a structured mess, but there is a little bit of eye candy so I guess it makes up for it!

I think I will be spinning around and heading out thank you very mucho.

Leeds Festival 2009: Metric

Well the NME tent was calling back to me in the sound of Imperial, or is it Metric? Who knows. The stage is lit to perfection and the crowed are all lapping it up.


A flickering of blonde hair and a dashing sequinned dress are coming from the stage along with a pitch perfect vocal. Kicking off the set with "Help I'm Alive" they couldn't make a better impression on these festival cretins. The crowd go even more mental with the lead singer jigging her hips and dancing like a film star. The vocals are a wall of sound bouncing around the tent followed by some stunning instrumental synth patterns and foot tapping worthy drum beats.


It just makes you wish you had the passion and love for it that Metric do, the set is spotless and emotional.

Leeds Festival 2009: The Press Tent

Ah the press tent. Full of busy bodies filming and interviewing for your reading and listening pleasure. Our Leeds festival 2009 interviewer Laura Brashaw (lbee) has been one of those busy bunnies getting interviews with Fightstar, Atreyu, The Blackout and Thursday. We have Metric later, but for now I'm heading over to catch the legend that is Ian Brown.

Leeds Festival 2009: Ian Brown

I mentioned "swagger" earlier on in the day. Now here is a man that probably invented the word then patented it.

As a large majority of the crowd left after The Courteeners set, it seemed that only a handful stayed to see the "very special guest" Ian Brown. They should really have stayed to watch and admire a truly original artist.

Having seen him play the NME awards a few years back, the only thing I can remember is his voice not being up to scratch live. Today was no exception. I wanted to believe that it was a one-off, its not the case I'm afraid. Legendary banger "F.E.A.R" was performed extremely well, but every now and again his vocals just didn't sound comfortable, narrowly going out of tune. The strange thing is that you only notice if you really listen hard, but it is there. His backing band where strong and filtered out some of the riff raff.


The set was short and sweet and he closed it off with the new single "Stellify", which sounds a little like a night out on a certain brand of beer. This was the strongest of them, featuring a foot-stomping rhythm section that got the crowd jumping.

Brown is good, just not in a live setting I guess.

Leeds Festival 2009: Fridays Pres Tent Action Over

Today's press tent action is over. Metric where unable to chat with us but as I recall Mike (catshoe) has a previous interview done last week that you lovely readers can get your mitts on very very soon.

The Prodigy to play the main stage at 8 but for now I'm going back to my favourite tent to check out the lies coming in the Colour of White.
