[Altsounds.com] WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM AND DOES IT MEAN DIRTY DOG IN SPANISH?
[Sucioperro] We wanted a name that made us sound exotic and yes it means dirty dog in Spanish.
COMING FROM AYRSHIRE DID YOU EVER GO ROUND THE CUMBRAE ON YOUR BIKES IN THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS?
No but it is one of our ambitions. I did go to Millport as a child though.
AND IS LARGS STILL THE MOST BORING PLACE ON EARTH?
Well I never go there but it can't be that bad, I hear they make nice ice cream.
THREE CURRENT MEMBERS, FOUR PREVIOUS IN 7 YEARS. IS THAT A RECORD FOR LOSS OF MEMBERS?
There are some bands who change that amount in a year I'm sure. Besides it's not as simple as that. Me and Fergus (the drummer) have made both albums together and that is when we first started touring. Our previous drummer is still great friends and came away on the tour with us and our former guitarist still techs for us. One member left for health reasons and I have always been the sole writer anyway so it's felt pretty organic the way things have ended up. We feel that everyone is still part of the team and we're all still in touch.
ON THE CURRENT TOUR YOU GET AS FAR SOUTH AS BIRMINGHAM. DO YOU FEEL SAFER UP NORTH?
Well it's nice to be closer to home but London has always been great for us. We're happy to play anywhere.
THE MARMADUKE DUKE PROJECT HAS BEEN QUITE A SUCCESS. IS THAT BECOMING MORE IMPORTANT THAN SUCIOPERRO?
Not at all. Many artists manage to combine several projects and many people work two jobs. When I was at uni I worked the weekends and holidays so I don't see it as any different to that.
AND WHERE DID THE NICKNAMES ATMOSPHERE AND THE DRAGON COME FROM?
The duke gave them to us and we're very glad he did.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BAND WITH SO MANY GENRE CATEGORIES. ALT, EXPERIMENTAL, POST-HARDCORE AND ACOUSTIC ROCK. WHICH WAY ARE YOU GOING DO YOU THINK?
The song not the genre is everything to us. I don't want us to be pigeon-holed.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELVES BEING IN TEN YEARS TIME? MUSICALLY I MEAN; NOT ON WHICH HIGH GROUND IF THE ICE MELTS.
Hopefully all still healthy, positive and loving what we do. I couldn't possibly say where we'll be as we go where the muse takes us.
