The Top Ten, Top Ten Lists, of all time, Top Tens - Songs To Drive To
Driving can be very stressful. Traffic jams, stupid drivers, long journeys, winding roads. All of it can really get people worked up. At the core of all of it, is music. Whether you listen to the radio, for the conversation, or the tunes played in between, even if you just throw on a CD and let it play through entirely, music is almost a necessity in today’s automobile experience.

The start of every journey is exciting whether you’ll be going for a couple of hundred miles or just up the corner shop for some milk. A short, sweet, exciting tune to get you in the mood for driving is needed.

Chuck Berry – Riding Along in my Automobile

To fall in love with driving, at some point in one’s life they have to embark on a road trip. It has to be several hundred miles to another country, or even just the other side of your own but a good long drive can't be beaten without listening to a good long song.

Golden Earring – Radar Love

Not every driving experience has to have a classic driving song. A lot of driving these days isn’t driving at all. A lot of what people do ‘in the hood’ is drive to their respective cul-de-sacs with their 64 Impala, throw on some heavy beats, and smoke what is often referred to as ‘a fat one’. Bounce that low-rider!

Dr Dre – Let Me Ride

The British youth have something similar. The main difference being is that instead of a cul-de-sac, it’s a cinema, instead of a fat one, it’s some pills, and to replace a heavy beat, it’s is a droning noise out of a woofer the size of the Ford Fiesta they’re driving. Tint those windows!

Katy B - Katy On a Mission

For people who drive long distances for work, music is an escape from the monotony of seeing car after car, light after light, road upon road. To escape the humdrum activity, an exciting track needs to keep you active which may involve tapping on the wheel, singing along or even a bit of in-car air guitar.

WARNING! Air guitaring whilst driving at high speeds is not recommended!

Boston – More than a Feeling

Christmas is a time of year in when people go home to see their family’s. Some people have to travel halfway across the world, or they may be lucky enough to live at the end of the street of their loved ones, but for most, driving home for Christmas is probably the best feeling in the world.

Chris Rea – Driving Home for Christmas

The crashes often end up happening because two people are either going two fast and racing to get ahead of one another, or just generally driving like lunatics on public roads. Although this is not a good idea at all, racing can be a lot of fun, but it’s best to do it somewhere on a private track or racecourse.

Greenday – Nice Guys Finish Last

Driving isn’t just fun whilst your doing it yourself, it’s also fun to watch (if you don’t count NASCAR). F1 is one of the most watched programmes on Sundays but unfortunately it falls behind one other motoring programme.

The Allman Brothers – Jessica

This freedom doesn’t have to only be realised when you are young however. A nice drive away somewhere to relax is sometimes the best way to unwind after a tough day. Some people just drive and see where they end up, others choose to go to the beach, some may even have a motorbike and choose to use that to ride around on for half an hour. It all helps to de-stress and relax, but a lot of people feel music is the best way to relax.

Incubus - Drive

With all of the above going on during your journey. It might feel like it takes forever to get home, but there’s one way to keep focused and maintain control of the wheel, and that’s to get some good music playing.

The Beatles – Long and Winding Road
