Besides being baked alive on the Central Line these last few days of 25 degrees set us all in the right mood for the mighty festival season which has now officially arrived. We are today giving you an introduction to one of our favorite Scottish happenings: RockNess.
What started as a mainly electronic gathering in 2006 lead by Fatboy Slim, has now turned into one of the biggest and more intense festivals in the UK with also one of the most exhilarating and dedicated crowds. This year's RockNess Festival has Mumford & Sons, Deadmau5 and Biffy Clyro as the eclectic headliners with a special set of the French DJs/rockers Justice, American dance-punk geniuses The Rapture and the 100%-assured-to-make-you-dance Friendly Fires, and if the weather stays this nice I bet Macfarlane might even unbutton his floral shirt during the set.
If you're more interested in guitars than in infectious beats, then you'll be fine cause the line up also includes New York post-indie darlings The Drums, Mystery Jets with their brand-new album Radlands in hand, The Pigeon Detectives, The Rifles, the always exciting Sound Of Guns and a Scottish festival classic: The View, all these framed with the intriguing beauty of the most beloved lochs in the UK (and probably also MANY empty cans of Strongbow).
One day or full weekend tickets are available with both non-camping or camping option, and you will also be able to buy VIP tickets with preferential access and special camping facilities here: RockNess Tickets | Rockness. Speaking of tents, if you like the idea of a festival but don't feel like carrying your gear around you can book a ready-to-use tent at the Tangerine Fields and all you'll have to do is show up with enough clean underwear and booze for 3 days. These guys also have sleeping bags, air beds, head torches and any other gadget that you might need to set up your camping.
For those who manage to have a good night sleep during RockNess (not me) the festival site will also be filled with daylight activities going from comedy shows across the stages and contests and competitions like the traditional spot the Loch Ness monster hunt!
The amazing people at RockNess even sorted out your travel plans, if you're down south and wondering the fastest/more convenient wait to get to the festival site, let me recommend RockNess Express, a specially chartered train that will depart from London Euston, picking up festival goers at Birmingham, Derby, York and Newcastle, before delivering the up-for-it party people to their final destination of Inverness.
Expect a full scale shindig on board the RockNess Express with top music, surprise guests, the best of Scottish food, cocktails, games and goody bags. What’s more, RockNess Expressers will get priority access on site before anyone else arrives plus a private party! With the train tickets you will also get a VIP weekend ticket with camping so you basically will not have to worry about anything else. RockNess Express | Rockness
The date is right after the Jubilee bank holidays, from the 8th until the 10th of June and you can keep up to date with all the festival updates on their Facebook site: http://www.facebook.com/OfficialRockNess and twitter https://twitter.com/#!/RockNessFest. I'm sure I'll see you all there!!
