The remix. What's the point of it huh? You may say "it's just a way to fill up CD/Vinyl space" or "just another way to fleece a listener"...

But, a good remix is so much more than that, 'good' is the operative word here because there are way too many shit ones out there that do fall into the former 'fleece, space filling' categories.

A good remix brings another dimension to the piece of music. I love a remix, love 'em to the point of obsession. How an artists track can be cut, chopped, mashed and played with to form a new sound both perplexes and excites me equally.

So with all that in mind I would like to introduce you to a remix I really think you must hear, you may love it, you may hate it, but you NEED to hear it!
Ladles and mental-men, may I introduce the epic Death Cab For Cutie in a whole new light.

LISTEN // Underneath the Sycamore (Dillon Francis Remix)

When it comes to bands that mix pure dark emotions with epic tunes Death Cab... are way up there. The Seattle Alt-Rockers have been around 15yrs now, with every new release comes a progression of that dark beauty, moving the sound forward yet always staying the same without repeating themselves.

[we are the same...]

'Underneath The Sycamore' in its original form is lifted from Codes and Keys which was released last November (2011), and in its re-rubbed form here from the remix EP Keys and Codes which followed closely on the albums heels.

This EP has mixes from class acts such as Yeasayer, Unicorn Kid and The 2 Bears amongst others and should definitely be heard at least once in my opinion.

[Dillon misread the email and got in an actual Death Cab. Doh!]

The stand out on the EP is by far the above mix up by LA's moombahton master Dillon Francis however. It does everything a remix should, taking the original track, stripping it back retaining vocal emotions but underpinning those verses with bass rumblings that could cause massive earth tremors and a synth squelch dripping with so much sexual tension it is in danger of 'feeling you up on a dark club dancefloor'.
