Triple Threat Tuesday: Issue #4 | Dire Straits

The ultimate laid back, chilled out Rock and Roll vibes

So some people may or may not already be familiar with Dire Straits as they are one of those Under The Radar bands even though, on the flip-side, they are also HUGE. Mark Knopfler is an amazing guitarist and songwriter and his songs always seem to have a vibe and a sound that is so unique that literally no other band out there sounds like Dire Straits and, as soon as a Dire Straits tune comes on you know who it is by.

I chose to start with Dire Straits today because my first threat, "Sultans of Swing" ended my evening's music (and my Spotifried Playlist) last night and it left me with enough of an impression that they jumped the queue and got to be this Tuesday's Triple Threat Tuesday focus band.

For me, "Sultans of Swing" gives me visions of road trippin through the US desert, in an old, convertible American car with not a freaking care in the world other than the road ahead. Good vibes.

My next threat for today moves to a different artist, Eric Clapton. The move is due to Dire Straits 11-minute performance of "Sultans of Swing" at the 1988 Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute concert in London when Eric Clapton teamed up with the band to play the song. As such, I decided to move on to Eric Clapton and to focus on his most famous band project, Cream and their historically classic "White Room".

What can be said about t"White Room" other than awesome?! It has that perfectly late 60's sound that I still, to this day, envy not being able to be a part of personally.

So where next you may ask?

Well my next move is over to my favourite band of all time The Beatles and their song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Probably the best song ever written by George Harrison, featuring possibly his best ever vocal performance too. You may be wondering how I got here from Cream? Well, believe it or not, the lead guitar heard on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is performed by none other than Eric Clapton! By far one of the greatest songs of all time, While My Guitar Gently Weeps is the perfect end to this Tuesday's Triple Threat.

Until next week, where I will have another Triple Threat Tuesday inspired by my musical listening that week. See ya.
