So for this weeks Triple Threat Tuesday I figured I would try a different angle again. This week, I decided to highlight three must hear tracks off of one album. The album in question is Mondo by Electric Guest and was just released a month or so ago.
Mondo is an album that is as diverse in range as you can get, with it going across the musical spectrum in one album. What is nice about Mondo however is that somehow, Electric Guest have managed to retain a sound throughout regardless of surfing different genres and if Mondo is anything to go by, Electric Guest will be a staple in the music industry for a while to come.
First up is Track One off the album, 'Holes' which is nothing like any other song on Mondo at all. In fact it is the most different sounding track on the album BUT it sets the album up for what is about to come with it's awkwardly glitchy beats. low. low bass sounds and super laid back vocals. Once you let 'Holes' sink it your head it will be hard to get out it for quite a while! My second choice is the 8 and a half minute behemoth 'Trouble Man.'
'Trouble Man' manages to capture a seventies rock sound and whilst I just told you it was eight and a half minutes long, if you ignore that and just listen you won't even realize it lasted that long, hence the quality of 'Trouble Man'. It's possibly the greatest track on Mondo and I can imagine it was likely to be their greatest risk when it came to putting together the track listing. The live instrumentation, bass, solos, vocals, harmonies and melody line all make this song one that should become a staple in your musical diet.
Now where the heck can you go after such an awesome piece of musical greatness like 'Trouble Man'? Luckily Electric Guest considered this and offer the super awesome, laid back and repetitive 'Amber'. Now by repetiative I am referring mainly to the main hook of the song and not the song itself. I love the way they triple the words "Amber, Amber, Amber" almost as much as I love the synth that runs behind it and the seventies falsetto vocals that sing back to the calls of 'Amber'..
All in all, I felt the need to utilize my feature this week to get people to check out Mondo by Electric Guest as it is well worth a bunch of listens and demonstrates a band with a HUGE amount of potential to become MASSIVE.
See you next week.
