Childhood Hero: My nan. She used to take me and my sister to dance classes at the weekends at Sylvia Young theatre school. She was really instrumental in nurturing my love of performing.
When I Was Younger I Wanted To Be: This is going to sound so cliché but I’ve always wanted to a singer, or something in the entertainment business.

My Favourite Website Is: I recently launched my first ever blog Blog | Meleka It’s probably the most personal thing I’ve done online, and I’m really enjoying designing it and adDING information. I wanted to share more about myself with my fans so I have a feature called ‘Moral Of The Story’ which is a bit like my diary where I talk about something which has happened to me and write the ‘Moral Of The Story’ at the end.
My Favourite Item Of Clothing Is: I have a grey cardigan from Revolver Los Angeles which my stylist got for me for a photo shoot a few years ago. It goes with everything and is super comfy.
My Favourite Shop Is: H&M. It’s affordable but the quality of the clothes is SO good. I have an H&M addiction.
The Best Boredom Buster Is: Painting nails any chance I get. Gimme a bottle of nail polish!
The Best Film I Ever Saw Was: Primal Fear, with Ed Norton and Richard Gear. It’s one of my FAVORITE films ever.
My Ultimate Snack Is: Watermelon, ever since I was a child I love it.
The Worst Food Invented Is: Liquorice, its awful disgusting how anyone can enjoy it as a sweet treat I have no idea.
The First Thing I Do When I Wake Up Is: Check my phone. But that’s usually because it is my alarm too.
I Can't Leave The House Without: My phone. I am officially a product of the 21st century.
I'm Well Known For: For being VERY clumsy and accidental. It’s so bad that one of my friends has nicknamed me Calamity.
My Hobbies Are: Cooking. I love cooking and trying new recipes mixing and fusing tastes.

First Band Name: Relay. It was a group I tried to put together in secondary school with friends. They weren’t really interested so I think they just went along with it to stop me nagging them.

My Biggest Aspiration: Is to win an Ivor Novello Award. I am a songwriter at heart love playing with words and lyrics.

The Story
Winning MTV’s Hugo Urban Rules in 2008 proved a great platform for now 22 year old singer/songwriter Meleka, since winning the competition Meleka has Collaborated and written with the likes of Don-E, Fraser.T. Smith, Chipmunk, Kelis, Basement Jaxx, & Donaeo.
To this date Meleka has received over 1 million views on YouTube for her own artist material, her debut single in late 2009 ‘Go’ became a funky house anthem and alongside her EP and other collaborations with the likes of Basement Jaxx and Donaeo, solidified her name within the urban/dance market.
2011 has been a busy year so far for Meleka, with her writing and featuring on records by K Koke (Roc Nation) & Wiley, writing hooks for U.S super producer Boi 1 Da (Eminem, Drake etc), writing with the likes of Bless Beats, Soul Unique (Bashy, Nelly), Count & Sinden, Dan Dare, Terror danjah and more.
Forthcoming releases and recent placements for Meleka include Roll Deeps forthcoming album, Wiley, Baxta & herve, Preeya Kalidas and her own single which is already picking up early play at BBC 1Extra and Choice FM.
