This week’s One Hit Wonder Wednesday comes to you via Charles & Eddie with their November 1992 single 'Would I Lie to You'.
The insanely catchy song was Charles Pettigrew and Eddie Chacon’s debut single and catapulted them to worldwide fame. It reached number one in the UK where it stayed for two week and went on to reach platinum status.
It also hit the top spot in Germany, Austria and New Zealand, peaked at number 3 in Australia and Canada and also saw major success around Europe. The track also won the pair three prestigious Ivor Novello awards for International Hit of the Year Best Selling Song and Best Contemporary Song.
Their debut album 'Duophonic' was less successful peaking at number 19 in the UK album chart and failing to produce any more hit singles. A follow up album 'Chocolate Milk' was released in 1995 but again was unsuccessful.
Sadly Charles Pettigrew, pictured on the left, died of cancer on 6 April 2001, aged 37, Eddie has since formed a new duo with his wife who go by the name of The Polyamorous Affair with their music being featured in shows like Ugly Betty and Dexter.
