Nobody played electric blues like it and ‘Gimme Back My Bullets’ captured the sweet southern sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Ronnie Van Zant’s vocals were heavily accented with a cowboy’s drawl and worked well with the band as they both mirrored each other’s melodies.

One of the highlights of the band was the guitar work of Gary Rossington and Allen Collins especially on songs like ‘Free Bird’. On this track they are more subtle in their shredding but along with drummer Artimus Pyle they remain tight and explosive at various moments.

The Story

‘Gimme Back My Bullets’ was released in 1976 to popular acclaim despite not charting anywhere significantly.

The song was released off an album of the same name and by 1981, Gimme Back My Bullets had gone gold after peaking at #20 in the US album charts.

Lynyrd Skynyrd were involved in a plane crash whilst touring the follow up album Street Survivors but then went on hiatus for many years as they dealt with the death of lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and many of their road crew.
