He was will.i.am before will.i.am had those full-stops in his name. Wyclef Jean had been putting his own Black Eyed Peas together with The Fugees but he had the ability to produce some pretty amazing songs himself.

The gut-wrenching song that is ‘Gone till November’ begs for forgiveness as Jean’s lust for freedom takes over, but the more explicit version goes in to more sordid detail about why he’s running. His flow is typically smooth and although his vocal melodies aren’t the greatest, Wyclef does understand his range and performs well within it.

The Story

The third single off The Carnival is one of Wyclef Jean’s more heartbreaking songs and has been reproduced many times.

The radio release sees Jean perform the track by himself although there are samples from ‘Michelle’ by The Beatles and ‘Karma Chameleon’ by Culture Club, and the video does feature a cameo from Bob Dylan on the line “I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door like Bob Dylan”.

‘Gone till Novemeber’
reached #7 on the Billboard 100 in the US and #3 in the UK and remains one of Wyclef Jean’s most popular songs ever.
