I don’t really believe in starting the week off gently, what’s the point? Go hard or go home, and all that jazz. If you’re like me and want something with a bit of clout and substance to start off the week, then Them&Us’s remix of ‘Ymbelydredd’ by the former lead singer of the Pippettes, who goes by the name Gwenno, is definitely a caffeine fuelled eruption of pure dense music that will shake off any Monday blues that might try and creep into your bones.
Them&Us are a London based duo (independently known as beatbox pioneer Killa Kela and former Basement Jaxx vocalist Ami Carmine) and Gwenno’s upcoming EP Ymbelydredd, will be released on August 6th via Peski Records.

The term ymbelydredd is Welsh for radiation, which is definitely an apt name for both original track and this monster of a remix. The combination of delicate, mythical tones of Gwenno’s voice floating on top of an opaque jungle of urban beats is electrically fresh, and compelling to say the least. The gorgeous Welsh lyrics hover weightlessly whilst the bass and synths churn harmoniously below, a euphoric platform full of punch and power.
