Music and sports really do go hand in hand. Sports is full of drama, passion, pace, ambition, determination, hurt, desire, anger and a plethora of energised emotions bursting from the individuals or team members working towards one goal and one goal only, victory. When watching sports on TV, placing the right track with the right sporting moment can be an act of pure genius, pairing an audio parallel to the sheer visual spectacle that unfolds before us.

The Olympics is very nearly here, filled with its excitement and anticipation. Each sports is like a thrilling chapter in the London 2012 Olympics story, and we’ve nearly got our mits on the front cover. For the cycling, the Chemical Brothers have taken to creating a furious, fast paced explosion of electronic wonderment to accompany the saga that will unfold in the velodrome centre this year. The panting strings dancing with the staccato bustling synths and hard hitting beats makes this a fantastic musical blast.

LISTEN // 'Theme from Velodrome'

The Story

As an avid cyclist himself, Tom Rowlands of the group and Ed Simons wanted to create a piece that would reflect "the sense of speed, pace and drama".

The tune will be played as the soundtrack during the 6 days competitive cycling will take place, and where 10 gold medals are up for grabs.

According to The Guardian, Rowlands explains:
"I have loved cycling since I was a boy. I have always made a connection between electronic music and cycling repetition, the freedom and sense of movement. Kraftwerk obviously cemented this connection with their Tour de France track. For us to create the theme for the Velodrome is a great honour and we're really excited to hear it in situ."
