Below we have the latest music news headlines, features and some of our favourite reviews from the past 7 days that have been featured on the AltSounds pages. This is also the AltSounds Weekly Newsletter that hits your inbox during the week.

On a daily basis, we're constantly inundated with news. News about political affairs, news about what's happening in the sporting world, entertainment news that's now more like gossip as opposed to actual news, and news about family, friends, and the cat down the road. Basically, information has never been easily attainable than it is today. In some way, this is fantastic, enabling us to constantly develop our brains, and in another way, we're bombarded with so much crap we have to wade through it to get to the good bits...

The joke’s over...
After reporting on the missing Jaz Coleman a few weeks back in the weird and wonderful world of Killing Joke, it seems the unpredictable lead singer is safe and happy in the African desert. Coleman reappeared on his Facebook page when he wrote, “What’s all the fuss about then?” after his family, friends and band mates had been searching for him for over a week. The Killing Joke frontman spent his time away writing a book, a television score and an album, expected to release soon.

No show...
The London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony rocked the world with huge performances from The Who, The Spice Girls, George Michael and many others, but there were some noticeable absences and the organisers didn’t shy away from highlighting them. Kate Bush and David Bowie songs featured heavily in the ceremony, teasing the audience in to believing they would be there live only to be disappointed. It seems these artist were asked, along with The Rolling Stones and Sex Pistols, but all refused, rumour has it The Who had to be especially convinced.

Baron von bus crash...
On their UK tour, metallers Baroness hit trouble while driving from Bristol to Southampton and skidded off the road and down an embankment. Although no life-threatening injuries were suffered, the band, and all other bus passengers suffered from a variety of broken bones and bruises after being trapped for an hour. Their remaining tour dates have been postponed until further.

I predict a riot...
The three members of Pussy Riot have been sentenced to two years in a prison colony for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred”. Despite vast numbers of public support pledged by many famous faces including Red Hot Chili Peppers and Madonna, along with Vladmir Putin’s recent quote, “I don’t think they should be judged too severely for this”, Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Yekaterina Samutsevich have been found guilty. Political activist and prominent opposition member, Alexey Navalny said, “The Verdict was written by Vladmir Putin”. The rest of the members of Pussy Riot have released ‘Putin Fires Up the Lights’.

A different kind of candle...
Long-serving bass-player for Elton John has passed away this last week. Robert Wayne Birch was found dead in Los Angeles suspected of a self-inflicted gun shot to the head. Birch also played with Billy Joel and Keith Emerson throughout his career. Elton wrote on his website “Bob was family… I cannot find the words to describe this tragic death… I loved him. May he rest in peace”. AltSounds sends our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
