Whilst Karima Francis might be a familiar name to you, for many she is still unknown, and this is a crying shame. In 2009 Blackpool based singer/songwriter Karima released her debut album The Author, which grabbed listeners with it's poignant lyrics and sultry vocals, Karima coupled this with live shows which were a raw, emotional journey. Then she disappeared. She battled with an eating disorder. She doesn't mind telling you about it. In fact, without her struggle, we'd have no The Remedy (released August 13th) and we've have none of this beautiful music from this beautiful soul.
You can tell from listening to not only Karima's lyrics, but her vocals too, that there have been plenty a dark day in her young life, but in The Remedy alone she has laid her heart bare and invites you into her world, and for all it's darkness you can sense the light at the end of the tunnel, the light she tells us she's now found, through writing the album and touring it, to say she has exorcised her demons is an understatement. But. As perverse as it sounds, I for one wish to thank those demons, because they have given us some incredible music from an incredible talent and certainly one to watch.
