On a daily basis, we're constantly inundated with news. News about political affairs, news about what's happening in the sporting world, entertainment news that's now more like gossip as opposed to actual news, and news about family, friends, and the cat down the road. Basically, information has never been easily attainable than it is today. In some way, this is fantastic, enabling us to constantly develop our brains, and in another way, we're bombarded with so much crap we have to wade through it to get to the good bits...

Basket Case:
At the drop of the first instalment of their new album, Green Day were told to cut their 45 minute set-list at iHeartRadio Festival 2012 to just 25 minutes in order to allow more time for Usher. Not happy with this Billie Joe Armstrong let his feelings be known. After shouting profanities at the organisers and the crowd to a mix of cheers, jeers and applause, he and Mike Dirnt then proceeded to destroy his guitars shouting “I have been around since 19-fucking-88… and you’re giving me one fucking minute”. The story later developed that Armstrong has been admitted to rehab for substance abuse. Here’s hoping the substance isn’t serious, else the family man may have just disappointed a large amount of his life-long fans.

Emeli Sandé, Plan B, Jessie J, Tulisa and Plan B have all been nominated for a variety of Mobo awards 2012. In the Best International Act category, husband and wife Jay-Z and Beyonce are up against each other, and not for the first time. If the event lives up to last year, it should be an entertaining one.
For the first time since 1988, Eddie and Iron Maiden will headline next year’s Download Festival. The metallers will apparently playing a very similar setlist to the one they played 25 years ago on Saturday 15 June 2013. Bruce Dickinson said Donington Park was one of the best festival locations in the country and the only place you can make “a proper racket”. Tickets will go on sale this Friday 28 September.
The UK coalition government has announced major plans to change the examinations for 16-year olds in full-time education. It seems the new EBACC qualification may dramatically reduce the amount of time spent on creative subjects. Jeremy Pritchard from Everything Everything, Julian Lloyd Webber along with music teachers and the Schools Music Association (SMA) have written an open letter to Education Secretary Michael Gove saying they are “concerned that the latest government proposals will effectively mean the end of the teaching of creative subjects”. The overhaul is certainly a worrying change for music teaching in particular as other groups like the Incorporated Society of Musicians shared concerns last week.

The name’s Bond, Adele Bond:
Adding to her legacy, Adele has confirmed her recording of the next James Bond film theme song. The film, Skyfall will be in cinemas at the end of October, and the song, also called ‘Skyfall’, will be released around the same time. Many people are waiting in anticipation, as this is Adele’s first new material since January 2011. The singer recently said, “If I didn’t write my own songs, I’d be out next week with a new album”. At least someone is proud to write their own music.
