What's good battle freaks? It's been a good week for battle rap, what with KOTD beginning to upload the battles from last month's World Domination 3 event, two of which feature in this week's 3 Round Roundup. We also had a few battles from Don't Flop from various events to choose from.
The Don't Flop guys are killing it at the moment, throwing events what seems like every week as they continue to push the UK scene forward. Their October 4th Birthday event is already shaping up to be one of the battle events of the year after the announcements international match ups like DNA vs Sensa and Unanymous vs O-Red as well as a Title Match in which O'Shea will defend his title against Tony D. I for one can't wait!
So let's get into it. Out of the many battles uploaded in the past week, here are the ones that stood out to us at AltSounds.
Out of all the clashes that took place at World Domination 3, this was one that I was most looking forward to. The geordie joker, (or should I say Batman?) went up against the bearded American in what was always going to be a hilarious battle of wits. Deffinition was out to prove how much of a LAD he says he is on twitter, while Dirtbag Dan was intent on ending Deffinition's international winning streak. You'll have to watch the battle to see who won but let's just say the decision was controversial, even drawing boos from the crowd. It's also worth sticking around for the post battle interviews with DBD and Def.
Here we have another classic match-up from Wold Domination 3, this time from USA's PH (formerly Pumpkin Head) and Canada's Knamelis. Rap veteran PH came out fighting with a point to prove after losing his title shot to PoRich earlier this year. Expect some hard hitting bars from him. Knamelis, who is probably now more well known for his 2.1 judging system was also fighting to prove he is just as good a battler as he is a judge. Expect irreverent comedy, clever word play and references to his awesome hair.
This week's only Don't Flop battle is also the only 2 on 2 to feature in this week's 3 Round Roundup and boy is it a good one. Filmed as part of the Edinburgh Fringe festival at the Underbelly event, and hosted by Mickey Worthless, it was always going to be a pure jokes battle. The mancunian double team Eddie P and Frisko make a hilarious return after their world class 2 on 2 with Lunar C and Matter last year. Expect some absolutely disgusting mum jokes from these northern monkeys. Rap battling English teacher Mark Grist teams up with his Dead Poets partner Mixy in order to bring some sophistication and intellectual clout to proceedings. This sidesplitting clash was a non-judged promo battle. Leave a comment below saying who you think won.
One battle that really should have made it onto this week's best battle list was Murda Mook VS Iron Solomon from Smack/URL's Summer Madness 2 event. Last week we featured Loaded Lux VS Calicoe from the same event. After such an insane battle we were expecting good things from another 2 battle legends. Instead we got 5 long rounds of boring filler that drags on for nearly an hour. Not a good look.
