He never shied away from it, but before 2002 a lot of people thrust controversy on to Eminem, after ‘White America’, the rapper found a new political voice. Two years later Slim Shady released ‘Mosh’ a call to arms for voters to turn out in millions to stop President Bush out of the White House.

The slow pulse of the song matched that of a march of people pacing toward the voting booth. Eminem unequivocally suggests Bush is the route of all evil, and must be stopped. Marshall Mathers’ genius wordplay splices in language that connects with people of all parts of society and forces them to care about the political elite.

The Story
The video to ‘Mosh’ was released on October 26 2004, just one week before the Presidential election in a bid to get more young people voting.

It was a success in this regard, but due to the overall number of increased voters, the percentage of young voters remained at around 17%. Eminem later said he wishes he had released the song earlier to reach a larger audience.

The song would later be included on the fifth Eminem studio album Encore, and although it wasn’t an official single, the airplay it received meant it reached the US Billboard Hip-Hop Singles chart.
