The sun-kissed sound of Everclear spawned several hits when they released their double album Songs from an American Movie, but not many were more nostalgic and fun-loving than ‘AM Radio’. The funk-rock song featured samples from 70s hits, such as ‘Mr Big Stuff’ by Jean Knight, but it was the original lyricism that conjured the most nostalgia. The speech radio set up is part of the genius production Art Alexis displays on every album in Everclear’s repertoire since 1992.

The Story...
The song was used in 2008 as a tribute to AM Radio Top #40 by John Record Landecker in his Memorial Day show in 2008, but the ‘AM Radio’ was originally released in 2000 from Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 1: Learning How to Smile.
Everclear’s Art Alexis sings about a number of specific years growing up in the ‘70s, including 1970, 1972, 1975 and 1977, including a genuine recollection about being arrested for smoking weed in the back of his friend’s van in ’75.
‘AM Radio’ is one of Everclear’s better performing songs, reaching #101 in the US, #80 in the UK and #32 in New Zealand, but the previous release ‘Wonderful’, from the same album, has been their biggest success to date.
