Nas’ new single ‘Cherry Wine’ is a beautiful, smooth hip hop ballad, infused with Amy Winehouse’s soulful vocals, adding a sense of immortality and extra class to the track. Nas’ lyrics infused with simple yet emotive soul piano is the perfect balance of today and yesterday, making this a stunning tribute to Amy Winehouse’ memory, strengthening the power music has of immortalising people and their characters forever.

Nostalgic memories and friendly ghosts hover around the bar in the video, displaying everything we love and miss about Amy Winehouse. Technology’s ability to capture and treasure moments forever is so gracefully displayed in the video, with an old fashioned projector effortlessly displaying images of Ms Winehouse singing on bare brick walls.

The silky jazz horns and the brushing drums are ideal partners, the foundation where the sprinkling of melody and Nas’ gentle lyrics sweep over, creating a little piece of magic.

Amy’s chorus, which goes a little something like:
Where is he? The man who was just like me
I heard he was hiding somewhere I can't see
Where is he? The man who was just like me
Heard he was hiding somewhere I can't see…
adds such a sheer sense of poignancy and loss, and the fact that she’s singing about missing someone, like a voice from the past before her death, just emphasises the sense of sadness in her absence. Nas has crafted a touching tribute to his old friend, a singer and a character that is very much missed by many.
