Taken from Katy B's free EP Danger, 'Aaliyah' see's Katy B collaborate with producer and Rinse FM founder Geeneus and girl of the moment Jessie Ware. The track has been around for a few weeks but in all honesty with you it's only just come to my attention and I can't stop playing it! Don't worry it's not a soppy tribute to the late (and great) R&B songstress Aaliyah, but instead a club banger along the same story lines of Dolly Parton's'Jolene'!
I'm not gonna lie to you, Katy B has always been off my radar, I don't honestly know why, apart from 'Light's On'I just wasn't interested in her music and I never gave it or her a chance. Until now. And on this very rare occasion I'll admit I was wrong, having now rinsed (no pun intended) her debut album On A Mission, and of course the free Danger EP I can firmly say Katy B has turned me around, I'm a massive, massive fan.
I'm an old garage raver, and I love that element Katy B brings to her music, of course with the help of fellow Rinse FM friends like Geeneus, Skream et al. So far, Katy B is staying true to her South London roots (big up the South London massive!) and I respect her even more for that.
The track see's Katy and Jessie share vocals over an old school groove with such a sick bass-line...get some decent speakers, turn it up and let the bass vibrate! Both girls vocals are stunning with Jessie's just dripping over Katy's. Without sounding like a fossil this track, Katy and the majority of the Rinse FM crew are giving me faith in EDM again, forget the American-ised dubstep and what not, South London is repping it hard, as always!
