Altsounds recently caught up with Peter Pedrazzi of Say No More. We discussed the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, ‘What You Thought You Knew’, creative freedom, touring and what it means to be a member of Say No More.

Altsounds: You spent a year writing your new record, was it nice to have the freedom?
Peter Pedrazzi: Haha it took a year to write the record because the first 20 songs we wrote were complete crap.

AS: Did you plan for it to take a year or was it an organic process where it took as long as it did to get everything right?
PP: We did not plan for this record to take a whole year to write. In fact, all the songs that made the record were written in a few short months before entering the studio. The record as a whole took so long to make because with each song the label rejected we had to go back to the drawing board a figure out where we were going wrong. I guess I can say that writing this record taught us how to write a record.

AS: Are you happy with how the album has ended up sounding?
PP: I can tell you that if the label would have accepted our earlier songs I would have to say no. However, we lived and learned and are proud of the songs and sounds of ‘What You Thought You Knew.’

AS: You're heading off on tour shortly, are you looking forward to taking the new material to your fans?
PP: Well, I believe we are an incredibly small band. Instead of looking forward to taking the new material to our fans, I would have to say we are looking forward to making fans with our new material.

AS: What's the best part of touring?
PP: The best part of touring is having friends across the country.

AS: Is Gumby ready to see the road again?
PP: Gumby is a very delicate person. The road is hard on him but we just rebuilt his engine so he should be ready to rock.

AS: What are your greatest expectations for the album?
PP: Name recognition. We are not expecting stardom or anything of that nature off this record. We simply want people to recognize the name Say No More as their next favorite undiscovered band.

AS: Was there anything you learned from making your first album which you were able to use this time around?
PP: Absolutely not. Everything that we did to make ‘What You Thought You Knew’ was entirely different from the processes used on previous albums.

AS: What has been your proudest moment since forming the band?
PP: Signing with Drive-Thru Records.

AS: What does it mean to be a member of Say No More?
PP: This band has been two Peter's, a Jon, and a Tim since we were kid's in our cowboy hometown of Salinas. What I'm saying is that unless your name is Peter, Jon, or Tim and you have been in this band for 6 years you will not understand what it means to be a member of Say No More. But please stop by our house in Sherman Oaks or hang out with us after a show and you can easily find out what it means to be a friend of Say No More.
