Foxy Shazam bust some grooves with Altsounds

With a raucous live show, hot tunes and sweet moves to boot, Altsounds caught up with the Ohio five peice to ask them a few questions and find out about the men behind the music.

So the name came from a slang term for cool shoes, is there any other interesting slang which has found its way into the band or is still used by you guys today?

I think that's pretty much it. We're not a very slang driven bunch of guys.

You offer something very different musically, do you think it takes people some time to understand what's going on?

I'm not sure. I don't feel like our music is so abstract to the point were people can't get it. Were just a simple rock band, if for some reason they don't get it when they listen to our record they usually get it when they see our live show.

Your live shows are almost legendary, how do you manage to get so worked up?

We're just soulful about what we do. I wish there was a big secret to what we do but the fact is we just feel the vibe of the show and go with it. We do however stretch and drink plenty of water before we play, but that's it.

Do you ever rehearse the extent of chaos which is adopted in a live show, or is it completely spontaneous?

Definitely spontaneous.. maybe before hand we'll think of something kinda cool to do but it never gets rehearsed before the show. We just go up and wing it.

What do you think people get from seeing you live?

Just a feel good rock n roll show.

Have there been any injuries or unfortunate accidents as a result of all that energy?

We've never broken any bones before (knock on wood) but we've gotten bruises, burns and scratches. I think if any thing our gear has taken a real beating.

How are you doing off the back of the second album compared to the first?

The first record was just something we did on our own. Introducing is more of our first real release. Its been cool seeing it in stores and what not. We're all very proud of it.

Are you happy with the response the album has received?

Yeah. I haven't heard anyone say anything to terrible about it.

Are there any plans to go on tour for a long period of time as you did following the first album?

We just got home from about 5 months straight touring, and we're going to be heading out again this summer. I'm sure we still have a lot more touring to do on this record.

Are there any major differences touring this album now as a signed band, as opposed to being unsigned before?

Yes, everything is different. Everything is a lot more legit. Shows are more stable, venues provide dinner. Also, everything is worked out before hand in contracts, you don't have to get to the show and fight for your time slot and try to hit the promoter up for gas money after the show. Things really run a lot smoother these days.

Do Foxy Shazam have any surprises in store for fans on upcoming live shows?

It wouldn't be a suprise if I told ya!

What are you most looking forward to with this band over the coming months and years?

I'm looking forward to some of the tours we have lined up. And we'll probably start working on a new record in a year or so.
