Part of the Soundsense Series
Once again it’s time to venture into the vast realm of sounds designed to drive DJ's crazy. Not “crazy” as is “Argh! I’m sick of these lame-ass sounds -- it’s driving me CRAZY!,” but rather “crazy” in the more positive “I can’t decide which great sound to use -- it’s driving me crazy” light. In any case, Chilled Grooves by Zero-G sports a number of very trippy samples that are sure to create the perfect ambiance on any dance floor. Like most audio sample collections out there, Chilled Grooves gives us a host of styles, and, for your added convenience, the Royalty-Free software also contains a few Kits, so you can build your own dance floor masterpiece without worrying about the Copyright Police knocking your door down.
Sample sounds include Atmospheres, Keys, FX, Bass, and an assortment of Percussions and Pads. These are all very short and sweet (with an emphasis on “sweet”) samples to begin with. But the beauty part here is that the makers of Chilled Grooves -- Sound Sense -- are fully aware that today’s DJs are simply not content with using primary Windows programs anymore. Therefore, the boys and girls at SoundSense have opted to include three different formats with Chilled Grooves. Music producers from professional and amateur worlds alike can choose between the traditional Microsoft-friendly WAV file or the Mac-based AIFF format, as well as REX2 audio. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a software program that isn’t compatible with either of these three variations…and, should you find a software program that doesn’t play WAV, AIFF, or REX2, rest assured that you have wasted your money.
Depending on what kind of program you use, all you’ll need to do with Chilled Grooves is to open (or maybe drag) the appropriate sample(s) into your working window, and you’re good to go. Most of the samples are perfectly compatible with each other, so there’s nothing to stop you from creating your own composition consisting of nothing more than tracks from this release. Like most good sample packs out there, the sounds can be looped with no dead spaces popping up in-between (I believe that’s standard operation procedure these days, but, at the same time, I’m sure it isn’t), and practically all of the samples should fit very easily into any musical (or perhaps non-musical) project from techno to rock.
Overall, any DJ or music producer will find Chilled Grooves extremely useful -- and, with a retail price of less than £30, there is very little else I can say about this set…except for the fact that it’s worth it.
