Describing sample packs doesn’t always give you a real feel for what they are actually like, everyone has a different opinion and what I might really like and describe as funky and fresh someone else might think it’s more unoriginal. This is why I thought it might be a good idea to create a short demo track using samples from PsyTrance NRG to give you a chance to hear it for yourself, (and please forgive me for I am not a professional music producer).

The pack compromises of six folders, acid hooks, arp patterns, bass loops, drum loops which include hihat loops, kick loops and percussion loops, drum one shots which include impacts, psy hats, psy kicks, psy snares, revs and SFX and the sixth folder is osc patterns. So, there were plenty of samples for me to choose from and experiment with.

I started off listening through the acid hooks to see if there were any catchy riffs that I could build my mix around and there are plenty. The main hook I have used is a very electronic squelchy like acid sound and there are quite a few of these to choose from with different catchy riffs. I then had a browse through the SFX in the drum one shots to find a sound effect that would introduce the acid hook. There are 20 very futuristic rising, falling and drone sounds that are perfect to create anticipation or release in a track.

Next was the bass loops in which there are 25 to choose from. I chose a short and punchy loop in E. All of the bass loops are labelled with a key, which is helpful as many sample packs I have come across do not specify what key the loops are in. I then added in some one shot kicks and hi hats and I was in full trance mode. The good thing about one shots is that you can use them to create your own drum kit or as I did in parts of the mix to add strength to the drum loop and you have your own original drum kit sound.

What I enjoyed most about creating this track was that there were plenty of diverse samples to choose from with different timbres and tones and whilst I was listening to them all I had so many ideas swirling around my head. This pack gives you a lot to work with and as expected all the sounds are of a high quality, as you can hear for yourself!

As the website explains, ‘’You get 250+ twisted acid synth loops, spine-tingling arpeggios, earth-shaking bass riffs and glitched-up oscillator effects, all produced in immaculate 24-bit quality and locked at 140-150bpm. Alongside that you get pounding drum loops and one-shot drum samples for constructing the ultimate build-ups and breakdowns.’’ You can get all of this for a great price of £17.95.
