Dividing The Line talk to us about music and food.

"Sometimes naked, sometimes on the floor, mostly intoxicated and always sweaty."

ALTSOUNDS - Hello Dividing The Line! Who am I speaking to?

DTL - Andy (Alan)

You remind me of a younger Funeral For A Friend but with bigger balls and therefore baggier jeans, is that a compliment? I think that it is.

Baggy jeans are always a compliment as we are all greebos at heart. Big thrive on keeping it slack. As for the FFAF thing, anything prior to the last album is a compliment. Toddy has huge balls so that is definatley true although i can't speak for any members of FFAF about the size of their baby makers.

So you have just released your debut E.P a few months ago 'Foundations', are you happy with it? Read more

General Baron of Horse The Band tells us about Mario and broken bones.

"Watch The Lion King"

Lead vocalist and chief moustache wearer Nathan Winneke had a few words to say to Altsounds about himself, Horse The Band and the new album "A Natural Death".

ALTSOUNDS - Hey there. Hows things?

Nathan - Things are capital! Thanks for asking!

ALT - Who are you and why would Horse The Band not be able to function without you?

My name is Nathan. I am the General Baron and it is my burning soul of regret and woe that is at Horse The Bands emotional center. Read more

The Briggs, Joey LaRocca tells us how it goes!

"They may feel somewhat left out at times but there is a curtain bond you can't break when you've taken baths together and shared a room for 16 y

The Briggs vocalist and guitarist Joey LaRocca took some time out from promoting the new album "Come All You Madmen" out now on SideOneDummy Records to answer a few questions thrown at him by us.

ALTSOUNDS - Your label describe your latest album as your "most honest and compelling yet". What experiences have the band had that support that quote?

JOEY - It cuts straight to the point, there's no use in ignoring the fact the music industry is collapsing and we as civilization are in an interesting time of turmoil and chaos but also change. On another side, it's also much more personal. It address our personal issues of touring and what toll it has taken on relationships and our lives. We just drew from whatever felt the most meaning full to us and wrote about it.

ALT - The lyrics to your song, 3rd World War, are very poignant, and suggest that you totally support war and its purpose. Is this the case? Do you have family or friends serving currently?

Well, first of all that is Read more

TRAPT frontman, Chris Taylor Brown

Thoughts on girls, from someone who gets way more sex than you

Chris Taylor Brown is one of the best looking dude rockers on the scene. He has male model good looks and young girls have been swarming and swooning since Trapt debuted in 2002. I found his digits on the wall of a bathroom stall, and since I was looking for a good time, I gave him a ring.

Trapt's new album Only Through The Pain tackles the subject of relationships, so I thought he'd be a good person to turn to for advice. Not for me, of course. I can barely keep up as it is with all the sex and offers for sex and things I get constantly. But perhaps you, avid internet user, could use some pointers on how to get in good with the ladies, irl.

This interview is done in loving memory of your virginity.

Morcheeba Interview with Paul Godfrey

“If I wasn’t making music, I’d probably be a serial killer”

Morcheeba have been in existence since the 90s - with all your achievements, all the albums, tours etc., what motivates you when you have writer’s block or things are generally difficult?
It used to be superficial stuff like wanting new trainers and t-shirts or wanting to get high (laughs) but these days I’m pretty inspired by nature. Nature is so beautiful. It’s a real challenge to create something as beautiful as nature itself.

Your recently released album is dedicated to increasing awareness about the marine environment. When did you become aware of the problems and why does it hold particular importance for you?
We’re pretty oceanic kinda guys, with the album having a nautical theme. I don’t really know – I think it was watching a lot of the David Attenborough stuff, finding out how raped the oceans are. I wanted us to use what profile we have to steer people in the right direction. Ross and I grew up on the coast and I live there again now.

Interview with Dale Stewart from Seether

"For us the thing that made it all worth it was the music that we had"

On June 10th South african post-grunge band Seether was playing the London ULU for what turned out to be an excellent show for a near sold out venue. 15 precious minutes spent on the top of the tour bus with Bass Player Dale Stewart got me knowing the band a little bit better.

You had quite a success with your previous albums "Karma and Effect" first and then "Disclaimer" and "Disclaimer II" on the US chart because they got straight in to the top 10. Did you feel any kind of pressure in making and recording this album given the big shoes that you had to fit?
You know I think there's always an amount of pressure when you're making an album. It takes you years and years of making the songs that you'll put on your first album, and then for your second album you have like a few months to write the same amount of songs! I think there's definitely a pressure that you put yourself under especially if you want to duplicate the success that you had on your previous effort.

I think we d Read more

Less Than Jake Interview

"There are so many ways you can do it yourself you don't really need a label"

* Hello. Who are you and what do you do in the band?
JR and I play saxophone and sing when they let me :)

* What can people expect from GNV FLA?
They can expect us. Less Than Jake. They can expect cool artwork. They can expect ripping punk, sweet ska, rad horn lines amazing lyrics and a nude pic of Chris in ever 5th CD pressed.

* What does GNV FLA stand for?
GNV is the airport code for Gainesville and FLA is the old state abbreviation for Florida. Its more so a nod to us coming full circle as a band. Back to where it all started for us as a band. Back to gainesville florida. We own our own label and could think of no better way to tell the world then by naming the record after the place we started.

* You guys released GNV FLA on your own label, Sleep It Off. How was that for you? Read more

Interview with CIAM

"Some of us went to kindergarten together…and some of us still do"

The initials that make up the band's name are taken from Congress Internationaux d'architecture Moderne, but what significance does this have to the band for it to become your name?
Mark Ferguson: We are big on architecture and design. The original CIAM was a large group of architects responding to social changes and urban design. We are a band, but we also work together with architects, artists, and filmmakers, responding to cultural atrocities like “American Idle” and karaoke culture in the ever-changing world in which we live.

Being from such far-flung corners of the world, how did you all meet?
Chris Hall: We bumped into each other on a street corner. No, actually, some of us went to kindergarten together…and some of us still do.

What do you think is the hardest thing about the band members being so far flung? (London, Tel Aviv, Scandinavia)
CH: Losing our way back home. We’re not sure in which country we live in. Seriously though, four of us live in Lond Read more

Foxy Shazam bust some grooves with Altsounds

"We've never broken any bones before (knock on wood)"

With a raucous live show, hot tunes and sweet moves to boot, Altsounds caught up with the Ohio five peice to ask them a few questions and find out about the men behind the music.

http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=621&stc=1&d=1212756098So the name came from a slang term for cool shoes, is there any other interesting slang which has found its way into the band or is still used by you guys today?

http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=634&stc=1&d=1212756078I think that's pretty much it. We're not a very slang driven bunch of guys.

http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=621&stc=1&d=1212756098You offer something very different musically, do you think it takes people some time to understand what's going on?

http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=634&stc=1&d=1212756078I'm not sure. I don't feel like our music is so abstract to the point were people can't get it. Were just a simple rock band, if for some reas Read more

The Dresden Dolls

Interview with Brian Viglione

Formed in 2001, The Dresden Dolls have defined their own genre that has led them to gain what some are calling an underground cult status with their fans. Their live performance engages the audience into a dark cabaret like fantasy which is orchestrated by Amanda Palmer (vocals/percussion) and Brian Viglione (drums). During their stage performance, both present themselves in elaborate costumes and dramatic make-up that keeps their persona hidden and as the show progresses they begin to unveil themselves to the crowd. The combination of Amanda's passionate, intense vocals accompanied by Brian's loud, aggressive pounding drums makes a perfect melody.

Currently on tour in support of their latest album No Virginia, I had an opportunity to speak with Brian Viglione about his interests, influences and his involvement with the upcoming tour with the World/Inferno Friendship Society.

Altsounds: So who were your biggest musical influences growing up?

Brian: Well, I think some of t Read more

The Veronicas

Censored by the man.

About a week ago, I did an interview with an electro pop band called The Veronicas. The girl I talked to is one of the singers and primary songwriters for the band. As a young Australian girl living in Los Angeles trying to make her artistic vision and career goals come to life, I found Jess Origliasso to be a fascinating character and she gave a surprisingly good interview. She seemed to enjoy herself, as well, and we shared some good laughs, as printed in the piece. The interview went so well, in fact, that it was featured on The Veronicas website as suggested reading for their fans. Then, yesterday, we received word that not only was the label unhappy with the interview, but the artist was, as well, claiming I misquoted her. The label asked me to take down the interview. We complied.

Now, I feel there is an injustice going on here. Not only to my integrity as a journalist, but their artist's integrity as a human being. I seriously doubt the artist would claim I misquoted he Read more

Your singer decides to leave and the future of your band hangs in the balance. What do you do? Call it a day or carry on? Nick Thompson faced that same dilemma but he made the move to fill those vacant shoes and Altsounds was there to ask him all about life in Hit The Lights.

Ace Enders and A Million Different People

"It's probably my favorite thing about making music, being able to create a mood or make someone's day a little better."

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c376/BarnesKevin/ace1.jpgIt’s always difficult to predict what comes next once a band ceases to exist. For many, The Early November, and specifically their enigmatic front man Ace Enders were the glorious little slice of alternative thinking and song writing within a vastly overcrowded and stagnating scene. In March 2007 came the news that nobody who passionately follows a band wants to hear; The Early November announced on their MySpace that they were set to take an “indefinite hiatus.” They weren’t the first and certainly won’t be the last, but on that day a big piece of thousands of fans’ musical dietary routine became sadly insufficient.

It wasn’t entirely out of the blue: “ I think we went as far as we could together and it was just time for all of us to move on and let the band lead us to the next phase.” The next phase for Ace is new project Ace Enders and A Million Different People, though fans of Ace’s previous solo project I Can Make Read more

Jesse Hasek (10 Years) Interview

Walk the line and pay the price...

10 Years is a conundrum. They are undeniably one of the most talented bands in modern rock but aren't clamoring for celebrity. They are known for their lyrical mastery but have never been fond of talking to press. They gladly take opening slots on tours but always outshine their headliners. 10 Years is a band that has been as much a victim to underestimation as they are perpetrators of it.

However, something has changed. In the years since releasing their profoundly epic debut The Autumn Effect, the band appears to have come to accept that people listen to their music. Simple as it may seem to the casual critic, the transition from starving artist to superstar is a complicated and potentially deadly undertaking. Kurt Cobain, anyone? Stories of fallen stars have made for compelling headlines in mainstream media and tabloids, but one such fallen star hit extremely close to home with the passing of Jesse Hasek's cousin, Brad Renfro early this year.

Adam Baker from The Hottness tells us things.

"Lets all go hang with Ray Charles. He knew how to get down."

With the brand new album "Stay Classy" hitting shelves recently we took vocalist Adam Baker to one side and beat some answers out of him.

http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=587&stc=1&d=1210687830Before we start anything, who is pissing at the start of "Straight Brown"?
http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=586&stc=1&d=1210687830 That would be me (Adam). It was a good night.

http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=587&stc=1&d=1210687830Its an interesting start to an album. What made you do it?
http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=586&stc=1&d=1210687830 To be honest I don't know. We were just having fun in the studio.

http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=587&stc=1&d=1210687830Who, or what has influenced your band and your music?

Gwen Stacy says a few words to Altsounds

"I've been in my house for a grand total of about three weeks this year"

With a new album heading your way and a mass of dates all booked up we spoke to Gwen Stacy about music and life on the road.

ALT - So, why did you chose Gwen Stacy as a name?

Comics are a common interest of ours, and we liked the sound of it.

ALT - As a Christian band, do you feel it's sometimes harder to get through to people who make negative assumptions based on your faith, or isn't that really a factor anymore?

People are used to Christian bands now. It's not like it's a big deal or new thing anymore. People seem to be receptive to our way of going about our faith. We respect people and they seem to respect us for that. Read more
