Keith from Ligeia talks to Altsounds
"Fuck missing home, we love tour, being home drives us nuts" August 26, 2008, 05:28 PM   ALTSOUNDS - How did the Edgar Allen Poe story published over 170 years ago become the inspiration for the band?
KEITH - Ha, not really inspiring or anything, we were just looking for a band name at the time and we felt it might fit with the lyrical matter of our earlier material. Later to find out, it fits more for a female fronted black metal band.
When you're going on tour, do you have any input into the bands that support you? If you do, what helps you to make those decision?
Only until recently have we had the chance to pick and choose support bands. This has been nice because it gives an oppotunity to tour with different types of bands. We have been touring non stop with moshcore, deathcore, and hardcore bands since we started so its a nice change to be able to tour with bands outside those genres.
Do you have any rituals that you carry out before you go on stage?
whiskey shots, the other night in tampa, fl the bartender brought us out 4 shots of wild turkey 101 and we did shots on stage before we played. It was an awsome show.. Make sure you tip your bartender 
You're using the same producer as you did with your first album, but are there any major differences between your debut album and this one?
Production wise Ken susi got a lot better in many ways, but he also helped us keep our orignal sound from the last album. I think the main thing we did different was with the drums, this time around he used a beat detective program and the drummer had to play to a click track which took fucking forever. On our debut album 'your ghost is a gift' Phil recorded all the drum tracks live from start to finish with no click tracks. But overall the recording process was buck nasty.
What is your favourite song from the album, and why?
Honestly, it varies to me from time to time, but recently its been 'Johnny Cash' and 'One Night Stand'
Who is the girl on your album cover?
Bobbi Kent
What, or who, inspired the song Johnny Cash? It's pretty intense.
Yea that song was based upon real experiences I've had with people close to me that have stuggled with addiction. Essentially its about oxy cotin abuse turning into herion addiction, its a very common occurance with people in our hometown area.
Apart from the usual 'missing home' and stuff, what is the worst thing about being on tour or doing dates?
Fuck missing home, we love tour, being home drives us nuts. If I had to say anything negative about touring it would be dealing with ridiculous gas prices. If we were doing this 10 years ago, everything would go a lot smoother.
Do you have a rider? If so, what's on it, if not – what would you LIKE to be on it?
Just recently for our cd release tour we got the privlegde of submitting a rider. Basically it has stuff like beer, sandwiches, and water, you know basic nessacities.
Describe a perfect night out for the Ligeia boys.
Ideal night for us would be short drive, awsome show, lots of sing alongs, lots of merch being sold, than a night out on the town with some lady friends. We try to go to as many dance clubs as possible and just act like assholes and raise hell.
How do the UK crowds compare to the US? It's been said that we have certain energy
I mean we've only been overseas once, its kind of a blur becuase we were drinkin so much of your wonderous beer, but I'd say the scenes are generally different, but that goes for anything really, its two completely different cultures.
And finally, if you could have written any one song, what would it be and why?
'Simple man' by Lynard skynard. The song is amazing, although overplayed very often, its a fucking classic.
