1: How would you describe your sound and what are some of the band’s main influences?
I am influenced by various things. In my childhood, I was often listening to my father's classical collection. I remember that, among them, I liked Bach the most... probably I was fond of its heavy and solemn texture. Apart from classical, I have also liked electronic music (such as Kraftwerk, YMO, Gary Numan) since I was little.
As I entered high school, I started listening to - turning the clock back - music like Post Punk, American underground, early Electro, Hiphop, Jazz, and everything. Also, I have been listening to Chicago acid house, Detroit techno (BTW - I am a huge fan of Carl Craig and UR) from its early era.
As long as I lived in Tokyo, it was not that difficult to obtain any information and find music even in the age without internet. Boom Boom Satellites are formed by all those past experiences, so it's really impossible to explain the band's music in a single phrase.
2: What’s the band’s opinion on file-sharing?
Convenient - as we can quickly check anything that we are interested in. I don't really have any particular opinions, though. When it comes to music, especially the ones I like, I like to possess it as a tangible object.
In addition, I don't really like the compressed sound quality, so I always end up in buying CDs. When I transfer the music to my iPod, the format is of course un-compressed .wav file.
3: Do you think it’s necessary for a band to be “signed” to be successful?
Nowadays, it may not be necessarily the case that the band has to be signed, but there would be cases where the band has to settle for a limited recording budget (when it is left unsigned). Hopefully, it won't lead to the situation that listeners can't be delivered with music of good quality, though. I respect the artists who are unsigned but still keep on good work without having to abide to a contract.
4: What’s been playing on the band’s collective stereo lately?
Nine Inch Nails and Blood Red Shoes
5: What’s on the horizon for the band in the near future?
We are in the middle of recording the new album. As we are really a live band, we want to go to USA to do gigs as well.
6: What do you guys enjoy doing when you're not making music?
We enjoy listening to music.
7: If you could play a show anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Anywhere - even in South Pole - as long as we are called for!
8: Do you guys have anything in particular you usually do to prepare for a show?
We always prepare special remix and arrangement of the tracks for the show since it's not exciting at all if we just repeat the sound included in the album at the live venue.
9: On the new album, are there any new genres of music you're exploring?
Um, this is tricky. If I were to say, the guitar sound figures prominently in this album more than we did for the previous releases, that said, the album was recorded more in a format of Rock music than before. Basically, what we challenged was simply to make good music, and I think that's all.
10: Anything else you want to say?
We really hope you enjoy listening to our music. Looking forward to seeing you all at the gig in the future!
