GEORGE NOZUKA TALKS TO ME
FRIDAE MATTAS George Talks To Me BY: FRIDAE MATTAS FRIDAE: “Who is George?” GEORGE: “George is a singer, he dances plays music writes music and works hard”. FRIDAE: “What makes you different from the other artists out there today?” GEORGE: “I think that every artist has something to offer that is different. For me, I wake up every morning and try to get better every single day. Hopefully, they will appreciate it, or not but hopefully they will appreciate it one day.” FRIDAE: “How did you hook up with CJ? Where on earth, did you find him?” GEORGE: “Well I was in a group with my brother’s first and I did an audition for another group, a boy band and that is where I met ‘CJ Huyer’. From there he was the manager of the group and then unfortunately the guys in the group were not really working that hard. So I told them this is what I want to do with my solo project and then I started to write a lot of music and CJ believed in me so it worked out.” FRIDAE: “Canada has had their fair share of local Timberlake a-bees like ‘ShawnDesmond’ but they end up drying up, do you thing you will have the longevity and success that they did not?” GEORGE: “I mean I hope so. I actually know ShawnDesmond he is actually a really great guy, he is a hard worker, and right now, he is getting some stuff out in Germany. You know, I think it’s the territory; it is very hard to become successful in this territory because it is not that big of a market. I think It’s about showing something new all the time and so for me it is really just about trying to progress as an artist and write music. It is also about your team, if you have a really strong team, then you can have a career. That is what I am trying to do, I’m trying to build my team together, trying to make some great music and hopefully have a long lasting career.” FRIDAE: “Are you still Indie or is a Major Label playing a part?” GEORGE: “Right now I am independent, on an independent record label that is signed under Universal. I actually just came back from L.A. where I sang for Babyface. There is some talk right now in getting major labels involved but at the same time, it is about setting it up properly because there are many artists who sign major deals, and then get swept under the rug. For me it’s about also writing good music and having integrity as an artist to do be able to do what I am doing. I co-wrote all the songs on the album and I had the blessing and opportunity to be a part of the music videos and my image. It is hard to have freedom in this industry when there is a marketing plan for everything, you know so it’s about balancing it out and trying to figure it all out. It takes time; it takes time to learn from your mistakes and also takes time to figure out what the right thing is to do in this industry musically and also on the business side.” FRIDAE: “Yes it is there’s a lot of trapping.” FRIDAE: “I was just listening to a few tracks off of your debut album “Believe”…You have a great vocal range and control.” GEORGE: “Thank you very much!” FRIDAE: “No problem, have you always wanted to be a professional singer?”” GEORGE: “No actually, I wanted to be a dancer first, I knew that I wanted to entertain but I didn’t know it was going to be singing and stuff. I was only dancing and I started dancing from looking at MichaelJackson, then one day I started singing. You know it’s not easy it’s about a lot of patience; a lot of trying to progress and even to this day there is so much that I want to do. I think it’s about having a good work ethic and when you have a good work ethic and you believe in yourself, you can do anything you put your mind to, that’s really, why the album is called “Believe”. FRIDAE: “Who did you work with on the album it has a very familiar sound.” GEORGE: “I worked with PerryAlexander, a few Canadian producers. I also went to Sweden and did some work with some Swedish producers over there. I also worked with RoyHamilton who worked with ‘R.Kelly’, ‘Britney Spears’, and ‘MichaelJackson’. It was really a blessing working with some great producers and producers, who really knew what they were doing FRIDAE: How involved were you in the songwriting process? GEORGE: “All of the songs on the Album”. FRIDAE: You are nominated for a Canadian Radio Music Award how does that feel to you? GEORGE: “Awe it feels great, it’s really a blessing to get nominated for any kind of award, I have a great team around me I feel very blessed. I am just really grateful you know, you work hard at something you wake up every morning and you try to do your best and when it’s recognized and appreciated that’s the goal.” FRIDAE: “You feel accomplished.” GEORGE: “Yeah!” *CONGRATS TO GEORGE FOR WINNING THE 2007 CRMA FOR BEST NEW ARTIST* FRIDAE: You are currently on tour, what do you plan on doing after that wraps? GEORGE: Well right now, I am taking a good look at setting up my charities and after this tour, I really want to set something up so that I can give back. Moreover, start that process because it is something that really means a lot to me. Little by little, I am building my team around that so I am really excited about starting that. Hopefully, showcasing an intimate side of what I do, on this tour there’s really a lot of dance and I’m going to try and slow it down a bit and show Canada a different side of what I am doing and I’m always going to stay working. I already have half of the other album almost done so I am going to start writing some more and we are also planning to go to Japan in May so it’s really exciting.” FRIDAE: “Your brother Justin is a singer also, do you feel that you will be compared to him sometime in the future?” GEORGE: “Oh yeah of course, I mean I am prepared, anyone who sings and dances and is a male will be compared, that’s just part of the industry. My brother and I are very close so we have no worries it’s just about making good music. I am really excited for him to come out and start, very happy for him because he is so incredible. We have talked about putting some songs together in the future so once everything happens it’s going to be really good for the both of us.” FRIDAE: “You guys definitely should perform together.” GEORGE: “Yeah it going to be great!” www.georgeexclusive.com ©2007FRIDAE™
