Dave Peters from Throwdown has a chat with Altsounds
"I've been a fan lately of just regular animals that can speak English" March 2, 2008, 05:25 PM * Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Dave and I yell at people in between meals and sleep. * If someone had been living under a rock for the last few years and had no idea who Throwdown were, how would you best describe yourselves to them? Well, I would probably just put our record on for them and let them do the describing themselves, but we fall somewhere in the middle of 90's thrash/"groove" metal and the heavier side of hardcore. * What has the reception been like for the new material from Venom and Tears on record and live? We really had no clue what to expect as far as a backlash or an open arm greeting to the album, and without coming off like a prick I hope, we didn't really care all that much? Well, that's not entirely true. I should say we made a record that was very organic and not affected by any force other than our own. We had pushed and in turn pulled back some on Vendetta and Haymaker, and while we're still satisfied with those albums, we thought it would be a disservice to ourselves and our fans to do that again. We trusted ourselves more this time around and wrote these songs straight from the heart and without too much unncecessary analysis. To answer your question, we're really pleased with how well it was received despite being a veer off the beaten path for us. I mean, some fans do hate it with all they can muster up haha, and others didn't care much for us until we put out V&T.
Nothing new under the sun for most bands of course. We're very satisfied how the songs have translated live, though, more than anything else. We enjoy playing new songs more than any others to be honest. * What do you think of the current music scene at the moment? If you were in charge how would you change it all? Haha I don't know. I don't think I would change anything. Sure there are a ton of awful bands that do what they do for all the wrong reasons, but who am I to stop that? I like what I like and don't worry too much about what others are doing as long as they stay out of our way. As long as there is at least one good record per year across all genres that appeal to me, I won't complain. ...ive set the bar very high as you can see.
* In your opinion, who is the most underrated band out there that deserves more props? Well there are so many. I think that most of the bands that deserve said props don't get them and the ones that do don't necessarily earn them. There are tons of exceptions to my hastily generalized rule, but many follow suit. There's this band ASG from the South that are just this phenomenal 3 piece. I think like most of these cases, their label probably shit the bed on getting them exposure, as I would have never heard of them if a friend didn't introduce them to me. That happens to so many bands.
* Being a straight edge band, do you feel that is a help or a hinderance when it comes to getting new fans or just getting people to accept you as a band? Both probably? A lot of people respect and identify with it and others have an unwarranted problem with it because they feel it is an attack on how they live. We really could give a shit less how people choose to live their own lives. We don't push anything we believe on anyone else. I wouldn't want that done to me. We can respect anyone that is comfortable in their own skin and can respect others.
* If there was one thing that you could hope to change as a band what would it be? eg. World peace. I'm a realistic person and we're a realistic band in general. We'd be satisfied with just having one single person per record tell us that the music we wrote helped them through a difficult time. That's what music has done for us growing up, and we feel pretty honored to be able to reciprocate. We never take for granted what we do or why we're able to do it.
* What does the rest of the year hold in store for Throwdown? Well, I'm told I can't tell you all of it for some ridiculous reason probably, but somewhere in the world you might be able to see us with Killswitch Engage and somewhere else in the world you might see us with Korn.
I'll give you a hint...it's probably not here
* Is the Minotaur still your number one Mythical Animal? I like the minotaur a lot. I think it's more brutal than a centaur. I've been a fan lately of just regular animals that can speak English. Like the lion from Narnia. Or our guitar player, Mark.
* And finally, is there anything you want to say to the world that i may have missed? No I think that covers anything I would want to say to anyone anywhere in universe. Thank you. This div will be replaced
