"Maybe we will get some more fans with ADD"
New Jersey’s Socratic are gearing up for the release of their sophomore album ‘Spread The Rumors’ on Drive Thru Records on May 6th. Altsounds caught up with Lead Singer Duane Okun to discuss making records, winning over fans, touring, what the future holds and above all the importance of enjoying what you do over everything else. Here’s what he had to say for themselves.
Altsounds: The new album is out on May 6th, what are you most looking forward to about the release?
Duane Okun: I am looking the most forward to playing new songs in front of people and hopefully them really liking them. Putting out a new record is always fun ‘cause it let's you tell your fans and everyone where you have been for awhile. What you been thinking about.
AS: Do you think the album will push you out further to new audiences?
DO: I guess you can never really say for sure but i'd hope so. This record is a shorter record compared to " Lunch for the Sky." We had some long songs on there. This record is

Note to artists: listen to questions before you start answering.
YouTube - The Last Goodnight - "Pictures of You"
I went to your MySpace and got all excited when I saw 'Pictures of You' thinking it was a cover...
Ahhh yeah. We love The Cure! You know, we had that title for that song forever. We have been working on that song for years but kept making changes to it. Tempo changes and other things, but the one part that always stuck was 'pictures of you, pictures of me.' We thought about calling the song Pictures of Me, but that would be weird. We love the song thou

"I've been a fan lately of just regular animals that can speak English"
* Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Dave and I yell at people in between meals and sleep.
* If someone had been living under a rock for the last few years and had no idea who Throwdown were, how would you best describe yourselves to them?
Well, I would probably just put our record on for them and let them do the describing themselves, but we fall somewhere in the middle of 90's thrash/"groove" metal and the heavier side of hardcore.
* What has the reception been like for the new material from Venom and Tears on record and live?
We really had no clue what to expect as far as a backlash or an open arm greeting to the album, and without coming off like a prick I hope, we didn't really care all that much? Well, that's not entirely true. I should say we made a record that was very organic and not affected by any force other than our own. We had pushed and in turn pulled back some on Vendetta and Haymaker, and while we're still satisfied with those albums, we thought it would be

The truth is out there.
As I have surely said before, I am not always excited to do interviews. The people always call at weird times and there is usually a tight time schedule so you barely get into the questioning before another writer is calling in. Also, song-writers aren't always the most talkative people. Sure, they write lyrics, but they have no idea how to carry on a conversation. Frank Zappa put it best: "Rock journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, in order to provide articles for people who can't read." That being said, I make no attempt whatsoever to 'spin' this band Three into the stratosphere of popular music. I am not going to tell you what to think about this band or that band...this topic or that topic. What I present to you here is one of the more fascinating conversations I have had in quite some time with one of the most talented artists I've ever had the pleasure of seeing in person. What started as a typical band Q & A became something entire

THE Matt Costa???? Wait...who is Matt Costa? Exactly. This new folky heartthrob is a relative newcomer, but you may recognize him from his days as a professional skateboarder. Then again you may not. Whether or not you already know who this guy is, he's someone worth knowing. Enjoy this interview..I know I did.

discover the importance of boozing it up
Kissinger recently completed their video for Sydney Stone. The video is one of the more complicated stop-action videos I've ever seen an independent band attempt, and I just had to find out how they were able to pull it off. I caught up with Kissinger frontman, Chopper, on IM to find out more about the video, their upcoming full length, and get a little perspective on what's REALLY happening in the vast world of independent music.
GlockMeAmadeus: How long did the video] take to do?
Chopper: You don't want to know
GlockMeAmadeus: No, I really do

Interview with Travis Stever, November 6, 2007
Coheed & Cambria recently released the final chapter in the Co&Ca saga. Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow debuted with critical acclaim as well as impressive sales numbers. This band is arguably the greatest band in modern music. Music has been seriously lacking when it comes to genuine rockstars with an innovative sound, but there is no denying that Coheed and Cambria fit the description. I was curious as not not only their perspective on their success, but how they've managed to maintain mystery while dominating in the transparent world of the internet. I caught guitarist and co-founder, Travis Stever, while shopping for tour bus DVDs...

Juliette Lewis, the actress who shot to stardom with such movies as Cape Fear, Kalifornia and her most notable role to date as a demented serial Killer in Natural Born Killers has now endeavored as a gutsy and outspoken front-woman for her band Juliette and the Licks. The licks have just recently embarked on their first US tour and I had the opportunity to interview Juliette to discuss her views about the band and the music industry.
Flavia1334: Who are your musical influences?
Juliette: There's a lot, and its funny. Because the challenge of the band is creating this chemistry, where we can think the same thoughts at the same time. Like when the guitar player writes a riff and it matches a feeling that i have had or a lyric. I get inspired by the musicians in my band. For this record I put together a CD of rock and roll that is akin to my band, everything from Thin Lizzie to Joe Walsh, the Doobie Brothers, Iggy and the Stooges and Led Zeppelin. Really classic rock with a bit

Levon Sultanian (Onesidezero) tells us about the songs that changed his life.
Music and playing music has always been in the family. I started
playing piano at the age of 7. All the kids in the family had to play
the piano. Our Grandpa Charles was the maestro. He knew the piano back
and fourth, upside down, in his sleep and on the back of his hands. We
all got pretty good due to the strict lessons with the Maestro. One day
my father put on his collection of beta video tapes in the living room
of our apartment in Hollywood. That was it! After I saw Ritchie
Blackmore(Deep Purple), Jimmy Page(Led Zeppelin), Tony Iommi(Black
Sabbath, Eric Clapton(Cream), Jimi Hendrex, all do what they were doing
to this other instrument called the guitar, that was it for me! I
