‘Say, fellow Kings of Leon gig-goer, have you heard of a smash hit single from the Followill fam’ called... what was it now?... Sexy Fire? Sex for Fire? Sex on Fire - that's it. I am sure that you have, and it’s pretty much the only reason I bought a ticket for this last night of the band’s “Only By The Night” tour. Despite the fact that the Kings powered through 23 super-charged tunes, the majority of which were back catalogue, I only paid proper attention when this number one started up, and proceeded to crush everyone else’s feet and drown the rest of the crowd in my abandoned beer just so I could get myself right down the front to watch a singer scream the word “sex” in the actual chorus of a song. For the next half of the set I wrapped my arms around my miserable-looking />...Click Here to Read More Kings of Leon @ Wembley Arena [LIVE] Author rating: 90% 10 People are talking about Kings of Leon @ Wembley Arena [LIVE]. In normal circumstances, I generally find pop-punk to be the most overused and unimaginative genres of modern popular music. Unfortunately for Porthcawl’s ‘Stereo By The Shore’, these are very normal circumstances. It’s difficult to know what to say about this record without it sounding like a review for one of the million other Blink-182 rip off bands from the last 10 years. It’s not that ‘The Soundtrack To My Life’ is a bad record; far from it in fact – it ticks all of the right boxes, e.g., catchy choruses, upbeat, carefree vibes, simple structures, simple rhythms, token American forced accents... but this is all part of the problem. The world just doesn’t need another band that closely imitates the hard work of countless other previous acts and passes it off as their own. The band />...Click Here to Read More Stereo By The Shore - the Soundtrack To My Life [EP] Author rating: 64%

Cuddly Shark - Woody Woodpecker/Bowl of Cherries (Single)

I've been trying to think of the things that I can do in 1 minute 42 seconds and to be honest I can't think of anything meaningful that I can do in that time (no dirty jokes please!). Cuddly Shark; on the other hand, can unleash something as immediate and unrelenting as 'Woody Woodpecker' even throwing the first 30 seconds away as an intro, very ballsy indeed. Colin Reid's vocal ripping into someone who clearly has grated his nut-sack once to often "Fuck sake, not much more can I take" about sums up his frustration as 'Woody Woodpecker' barks the tale of that annoying person who has been placed in the world with the sole purpose of grinding your gears. This doesn't out stay it's welcome and I don't think it ever could, undoubtedly going to be received gloriously live with it's rousing />...Click Here to Read More Cuddly Shark - Woody Woodpecker/Bowl of Cherries (Single) Author rating: 74%

If you weren’t aware, Linkin Park has a fan club called the LP Underground. This release is, as far as I’m aware, for club members only and features various unreleased tracks. "Songs From The Underground" starts off with a nice intro track that builds and leaves you wanting more, ending with Chester screaming in the background, sounding more like a Swedish hardcore singer than a new metal warbler. Sadly, the next track doesn’t really compare, blaring out in true mediocre fashion, with a garishly horrible new metal riff and a chorus that wants to be something it will never be, like Jodie Marsh thinking that she could ever be attractive. This sets the tone for the rest of the tracks, varying between average new metal toss and moments of brilliance. I can see why this is a gift to club />...Click Here to Read More Linkin Park - Songs From The Underground Author rating: 54%

'Road to Revolution' is yet another addition to the Linkin Park catalogue. It’s amazing how many releases Linkin Park have actually had, compared to the amount of material they have written. If there were an award for the most successful exploitation of material, then Linkin Park would get it. 'Minutes to Midnight' was the 3rd original album from the sextet but in that time they have released 'Re-animated', which is a remix of their first album, 'Hybrid Theory', 'Live in Texas' and 'Collision Course', which is a collaboration with rapper Jay Z. So now with the addition of 'Road to Revolution', Linkin Park have successfully released 7 albums off of the back of 3 albums worth of material. This may be slightly lazy of Linkin Park, but it’s worked and they have become very successful off the />...Click Here to Read More Linkin Park - Road To Revolution [CD/DVD] Author rating: 71%

Fallbrooke hail from Miami and maybe it's just me and my limited memory but I can't thing of any decent bands from Miami. I'm sure it's just me?!?! Anyway Miami it is and all I know about Miami is what Will Smith told us in his song about the City; Mickey Mouse has a home there, and apparently they allow you to go topless on the beach which is good for me because I hate wearing t-shirts when it's roasting out. So I guess what I'm getting at is that I have no idea if Fallbrooke are archetypal of the Miami music scene or if they are gleaning their sound from someone else somewhere else... no idea folks. However, they've done enough to be signed by RMR, whose founder member brought us No Doubt and Bush and they've both done alright for themselves you could say. And Fallbrooke's self-titled />...Click Here to Read More Fallbrooke - Fallbrooke [Album] Author rating: 59%

There has recently been an influx of electro dance music hitting the UK. Whether it is old bands making a decision to curve-ball and change direction by investing in a shiny new Moog, or new bands boarding the 'serious new-rave' wagon, there’s something irritating about the scene. Not only is it annoying, but suddenly there’s a fashion for long-retired bands to decide they wish to return to work and tour stadiums a la Take That and Boyzone. So, when a new CD arrives to review there’s always a touch of cynicism. Is this CD going to sound like the mountain of promos I already have in the corner of my room, or is it going to be one of those rare and nice surprises? In this case it is the latter. The currently unsigned Honey Pine Dresser, fronted by Quebecian Marie-Pascale Hardy, formed />...Click Here to Read More Honey Pine Dresser - Island Gardens [EP] Author rating: 79% 1 People are talking about Honey Pine Dresser - Island Gardens [EP]. The Dandy Warhols have produced some very good musical moments over the course of their rather colourful career, many of which came together to produce very good albums. Sadly, such collective greatness has long since disappeared. Their last two albums have been bloated affairs, rather self-indulgent and turgid overall, but there were still glimpses of what they were capable of; ‘Mis Amigos’ is almost one of them. ‘Mis Amigos’ is their latest single from self-released sixth album, ‘Earth To The Dandy Warhols’, and it sees The Dandy Warhols make a welcome return to their pop past, if slightly less doleful than previous efforts. Indeed ,‘Mis Amigos’ has never seen The Dandy Warhols so bouncy and chipper. It has mariachi trumpets, steel drums, Courtney Taylor-Taylor’s most interested />...Click Here to Read More The Dandy Warhols - Mis Amigos [Single] Author rating: 56% 3 People are talking about The Dandy Warhols - Mis Amigos [Single]. Fuck you, they won't do what you tell them.

Classic Album: Rage Against The Machine - Self Titled

Rage Against the Machine defined their own genre. No band before them or since have ever managed to successfully implement heavy riff rock with angry, political statements rapped with such definition. It's hard not to like Rage Against the Machine. I will go as far as to say that to a point, Rage Against the Machine were the pioneers of riff based rock, showcasing that a guitar can be a lot more than just strumming chords and doing solos. The riffs could become hooks in their own right. />...Click Here to Read More 6 People are talking about Classic Album: Rage Against The Machine - Self Titled. Come voice your opinion!

When I first started in the music industry, I couldn't tell anyone what I did for a living without having a conversation about their favorite bands and what music they are currently in love with. As annoying as that should have been, it was never unwelcome. Hollywood Undead is a new band coming out of, you guessed it, Hollywood. Donning masks and producing a rap/rock hybrid style, there is debate about whether or not this band should be taken seriously. Although topping the MySpace charts, there have been just as many critics questioning the artistic integrity of these young rockstar hopefuls. Even among their many fans, there seems to be disagreement regarding what this band is even about. Q & A Interview with André Steinmann of Anima

In the summer of 2005 Benni (drums) and André (guitar) decided to start a metal band with their friend Tino Hoffmann on vocals. They were soon joined by Steven on guitar, who had seen an ad posted by the band. The band was originally going to be called Metmachines, but this monicker was soon discarded. Soon after, Justin joined the band on bass, thus completing the line-up for the time being.

Tips For 2009: Part 1

Musically, compared to recent years, it could be argued that 2008 was a slightly disappointing year overall. Here at Altsounds, voting for the best albums of the year proved tricky for some for rather different reasons than usual, with many finding it hard to recall many truly memorable full lengths, rather than the usual problem of whittling down a lengthy list.

So let’s hope 2009 proves to be more fruitful, especially for debut acts, as we’re all about new music here at Altounds. />...Click Here to Read More

And so the wait is over all the votes have been counted and the results are in for Altsounds Top 50 Albums of 2008. It was meant to be just a Top 20 but seeing as we got a lot of mixed results and some intriguing little gems of albums popped-up, we decided to extend the Top 20 to a Top 50! Now you certainly won't all agree with the results I'm sure but we can't always keep everyone happy. Anyway here goes the Top 50 Albums of 2008 as voted for by the reviewing staff of Altsounds, enjoy.
