| | Jemilla Russell-Clough's Blurb About Me: I am currently a final year Journalism and Human Rights student concentrating more on getting my writing published than on my dissertation.
I run my own music magazine called The Dap (www.myspace.com/thedapmag). I write for four other publications in the mean time.
I am attempting to carve a career for myself as and a music journalist, when I graduate I will start practicing as a music photographer and start putting my work out there in the same way. I love writing about music as much as I love listening and dancing to it, this is why I have chosen to follow this path, but in the grand scheme of things paying rent and council tax is top of a graduates priorities and whatever happens I will always write about and attempt to capture to music. Jemilla Russell-Clough's Interests: General: Writing it number one interest.... Music is a joint second... I love a good rave, preferably somewhere underground not quite well known but is on the up and engulfed with people who just love to dance and appreciate music.
Something that is not my interest is: pretentious narcissistic Indie clubs where its all about your fringe , crack head hair and girls fighting over the band. This is not cool.
I also in my spare time volunteer at a children's summer camp called Over the Wall (www.otw.org.uk) which provides children between the ages of 8-16 years old who have or are suffering from serious illnesses summer camps away. I have been involved with this charity for 9 years now and it is very special to me.
I like meeting like-minded people, they don't necessarily have to have everything in common with me, but I like being surrounded with people who have a taste for life. Who are a bit strange but who get excited about different and new things and the world. I do not have any interest in people who can seriously have a conversation about the ups and downs of Coronation Street et al.
I do various other things to do with Human Rights, I try and get involved with various organisations, sometimes I go on protests. I love doing voluntary work so this sometimes ties in with everything else. Music: At the moment the RGB's are the best girl group around. Its all Indie-electro-fem-pop but this is the only time that I will say with a smile on my face that I like the kind of music that can be played at Koko.
I love them. I love Trip-hop. I have recently (but late!) discovered Rosin Murphy. This woman makes me want to move like never before.
I also am in love with Swedish singer Lykke Li. Possibly the sexiest woman on the planet. I left the gig either wanting to be her or be with her.
I do like boys, though it must seem like I don't right now. But these women are making me proud to be a woman and into music.
I like a lot of music from Johnny Cash to Roots Manuva. I can't list them all because my memory is terrible. I just love music.
At the moment there is this Glasweigan band called Frightened Rabbit. Again the one of the very few Indie-esque bands I would proudly admit I like.
I really really love trip-hop, dub, dubstep, reggae, hip hop (not mainstream MTV chart shizzle) electro, funk, ska, techno and recently have been introduced to Detroit Techno. HARmazing! pretty much my music snobbery revolves around synthesized electro beats. Movies / TV: Little Miss Sunshine (film)
Goodbye Charlie Bright (film)
anything by Shawn Meadows.... Books: My favourite book of all time is by Mitch Albom "the Five people you meet in heaven" Latest Press Content Below details the latest content that was posted by this user. |
