Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon
This film chronicles the life of music legend, form his childhood to his marriage to June Carter. The movie follows Cash through his time in the military, to his first marriage, to his booming success, and though his problems with addiction and bounce back to success.
This film was a musical journey that wasn’t nearly long enough to do Cash justice. Joaquin Phoenix does a fantastic job as the man in black. If he doesn’t win an award for this film, I’m going to re-think my views on God. Reese Witherspoon does a great job as June Carter, the musical phenomenon whose career Johnny cash had followed since childhood. There is little about this movie that I didn’t like. It dragged only slightly at certain points in the film but more than made up for it in the end. The musical performances where spectacular, and I was even more impressed that the actors did all of their own singing. This film is truly spectacular, and anyone who likes Johnny Cash in any way needs to see this film. Conclusion: An excellent portrayal of a musical legend. A
