Shad (Shadrach Kabango) has emphatically emerged as one of Canada’s most gifted young hip-hop artists. After garnering groundbreaking reviews on his independent 2005 debut When This is Over, Shad seems to have effortlessly leaped over huge expectations with his sophomore release, The Old Prince.

When This is Over earned endless respect for its honest and clever lyrics and its distinct musical aesthetic. Shad toured the album, selling out solo shows in Toronto and London, playing for campuses across the country, and landing opening spots for the likes of Common, Lupe Fiasco, Classified and K-Os. His constantly developing fan base and reputation as a performing musician also landed Shad invaluable stage-time at a variety of festivals including Hillside, the PTBO Folk Festival, Wakestock and Manifesto.

Shad’s growth as a musician shines through on The Old Prince. Smashing expectations, Shad has attained lightning reviews across the board, including a spot in Exclaim’s Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of the Year, 5 N’s in Now Magazine, an epic album review on the internationally read and extremely critical hip-hop site, Okayplayer.com, a 2008 Juno nomination for Rap Recording of the Year, as well as a nomination for the prestigious 2008 Polaris Prize.

Emerging Canadian hip-hop artist, Shad, premiered his music video entitled “The Old Prince Still Lives At Home” today on Pitchfork.tv, quickly introducing the artist to a new core audience in the U.S. market.

The video’s director, Hot Dog Garbage, did a stunning job of capturing Shad’s vision for the song in this video. With U.S. tour dates to come and the release of “The Old Prince” sneaking up in October, this is just the beginning for Shad!
