There's a new single by Enter Shikari on the way. Its called 'We Can Breathe In Space, They Just Don't Want Us To Escape' and it will be on the shelves of record shops (as many as are left these days anyway), online retailers, and digital outlets in the UK from November 3rd. The single will be once again released on the band's own Ambush Reality label.
This version of 'We Can Breathe In Space' is a drastic re-working of a song originally demoed by the band way back in the mists of time (though popular amongst fans thanks to its brisk trade on file sharing / P2P sites, despite being missing from the live set for the past couple of years). The track was recorded in East London during the summer 2008 during a break in writing sessions for the follow up to the top 5 gold sales certified album 'Take To The Skies'. It is the first new recording to be released by Enter Shikari since June 2007.

'We Can Breathe In Space' was produced by Andy Gray who (aside from writing the theme tune to evil Channel 4 show Big Brother) has previously worked with the likes of Radiohead, U2, Paul Oakenfold, Gary Numan and Korn.

As we're not in a position at present to be hopping on the usual 'single / album / tour / single' marketing treadmill, 'We Can Breathe In Space' is being released as a stand alone single - we're not leading into an album release two weeks later nor nothin'. It’s purely for its own sake and to give the band's awesome fans something new to hear until the album lands next year.

In an attempt to gather up all the bits we have lying around though, there'll be a couple of different format versions of the single. It'll be released as:

#1 - A coloured vinyl 7" featuring as its B-side a cover of Faithless' 'Insomnia' which was recorded live in front of a sold out crowd at London's Brixton Academy on the Autumn tour 2007.
#2 - A remix 7" featuring 'We Can Breathe In Space' and smash hit 'Sorry You're Not A Winner', both remixed by Enter Shikari singer / elecronicist Rou under his dubstep / d'n'b side-project moniker of 'Rout'.
#3 - A 4-track mail order only CDEP of all 4 tracks
#4 - The now standard 'digital downloads' a highly "bangin'" Andy Gray remix of 'We Can Breathe...' will also be released as a digital exclusive alongside the aforementioned tracks).

Cor! format-tastic!

Of course, the market being what it is today, the formats will end up retailing for pretty much what it costs us to manufacture them. Great stuff. The only real upside being that hardly anybody buys records anymore anyway, so we won't have to commit too much money making bits of plastic. Who knows, we might escape from this only having lost a 'lot' of money instead of the usual 'shedload'.

Speaking of spending money that you never see back again, a video for the single has been shot and is being edited somewhere across town at the very same time as I am typing this. It was directed by our good friend Mr Alex Smith who directed the video for 'Sorry You're Not A Winner' (5million+ plays on Youtube so far) as well as previously directing vids for upcoming baby bands such as Coldplay, The Darkness, Iggy Pop and The Futureheads.

To hammer home the loss-making nature of this project further, 'We Can Breathe In Space' will not be included on the band's second album (which is due to begin recording on the exotic Isle Of Wight directly after the tour, again with Andy Gray, and provisionally slated for Spring 2009).

In order to live up to the image you may have of the band already, Enter Shikari will be climbing in the tour bus at the end of September for a month long jaunt in support of the single. To compound that image further, a lot of the tour takes in parts of the country not likely to be bothered by less hardy artists anytime soon... Let's hear it for Llandudno, Hastings, Inverness, Cork and Keele!

Right... the bare facts for those of you who chose to shun my prose;

- There is a new Enter Shikari single.
- It’s called 'We can Breathe In Space, They Just Don't Want Us To Escape'.
- It will be in stores / online in the UK on November 3rd 2008.
- It will be released on 2 x 7", CDEP and digital download.
- It was produced by Andy Gray.
- It will not be directly followed by an album.
- It coincides with a month long tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland (dates attached)
- Enter Shikari rules.
- Other bands don't.
