Youthmovies are back to prove themselves once more as one the UK’s most interesting & musically diverse independent bands.
The dynamic and passionate delivery of their unique convergence of styles quickly established them one of the most respected underground bands in the UK. Their pioneering of highly contemporary, genre skewing music has its’ background in the disparate works of geographically related neighbours Radiohead and associated sound-world cousins, Battles.
Serving for many, the same touchstone commitment that Sonic Youth built in America and beyond in the 1980's, Youthmovies are, perhaps not surprisingly, also one of the most hardworking bands currently active in Britain.
From endless touring with the likes of Foals, Dead Meadow, Blood Red Shoes, Rolo Tomassi & 65daysofstatic... to playing as Saul Williams’ backing band… to regular improvisations, collaborations and live film soundtracks in venues as disparate as art galleries, theatres and forests... to running Try Harder Records (Foals, Blood Red Shoes, Jonquil, Playdoe, Sweat.X)… to countless side projects, with Andrew Mears and Yannis Philippakis of Foals reuniting on musical endeavors to form Bins are for Bombs (with a debut release scheduled for early 2009)… it’s none stop!
Youthmovies will be releasing the Polyp EP on new home Blast First (petite) which features 5 brand new tracks and a remix from Hugo Manuel of Jonquil. The release will be followed by a full UK tour with Portland’s Adam Gnade, who once again collaborates with the band on the EP track Become an Island (following the 2007 Honey Slides EP).
Other guests include Vicky Steer (Blanket) who provides vocals on Magic Diamond and Joe Shrewsbury (65daysoftstatic) who took part in the late night improvised recording of the aforementioned Become An Island.
The EP sees the band perhaps referencing more traditional musics than previous efforts, touching upon folk, country and minimalism.
