Rock music has inherently been place to bad band names.
Shiema was born out of shared interests, a reference to an underground skater, Brian Sheima, which a dyslexic bassist could not spell right in his own email address. Having bad name was a way to prove yourself and have more conviction in what you do and the same goes for the sound of the band.
With what at first seems like similar influences to the majority of young bands out there, Shiema is one of those which stuck out like a sort thumb, always the bunch of kids who were the square block trying to fit into the circle hole.
‘Make Them Swing ‘till it hurts’ is a combination of the more pop end of their sound with small nuances of the other spectrum of their influence from Faith No More, Living Colour to The Police. A clash of trying to write a 3 minute pop song but every time wanting to subvert it that little bit more. The EP was recorded by Frankie Torpey (This City, Mimi Soya, Rig Up Explosive)
