Joshua Radin will perform on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" tomorrow night, November 12th. And "Vegetable Car," a song from Radin's new album, Simple Times, will be heard in tonight's episode of The CW hit series "90210." Several other tracks from Simple Times have already been used this season in "Grey's Anatomy" and "One Tree Hill" (three episodes to date) while "Brand New Day" will be Borders' "Single of the Week" beginning November 24th and "One of Those Days" has been tapped by Starbucks and iTunes as a "Pick of the Week" for January 2009.
Lead single "I'd Rather Be With You" is heating up at radio and Zach Braff ("Scrubs," "Garden State"), a college friend of Radin's, directed the video for the track, which features Katrina Bowden from "30 Rock."
"Josh wanted to do something very small and simple this time," say Braff. "So we loaded up some old super 8 cameras and one of my old Polaroid cameras and went on a road trip. The song tells its own story, so all I really did was create a simple, pretty collage around Josh's lyrics." The video will premiere at People.com : The #1 Celebrity Site on the Web today. A mere 48 hours after its digital release, Simple Times hit No. 1 on both iTunes' Album and Alternative charts and went on to enter The Billboard 200 at No. 34. Billboard succinctly summed up the young singer-songwriter's career thus far in a recent feature: "During the course of the last few years, Radin went from being played on 'Grey's Anatomy' before he had a record deal to being dropped by his label to serenading Ellen DeGeneres as she walked down the aisle." Simple Times, which was produced by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith), is the premiere release from Q Prime's new independent label, mom & pop music co., which is helmed by Michael Goldstone. It features guest appearances by Patty Griffin and Meiko. The album is the follow-up to Radin's acclaimed full-length debut, 2006's We Were Here, which Rolling Stone praised as "understated, poignant and refreshingly frank" in a four-star review. Radin will embark on a headlining tour in January; dates will be announced shortly. Meanwhile, be sure to check out the "breaking" featuring on Joshua on the Rolling Stone New Music blog:
